If the Church does not need "someone" to lead us and keep us on the "Right Path," why do we have a need for a President to lead the country??? Some presidents don't even know the right path! They just think they do.
The Pope is only infallible when it comes to Faith and Morals. His opinions about cars, restaurants, countries, etc. are still just OPINIONS!
Most Catholics do not accept infalliblity as defined by Vat I
There is ONE mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus! (1 Tim. 2:5).
Why should anyone need a pope when we have Jesus and we have the Bible? We do not need a "representative" here on earth. Anyone who takes such a lofty position upon himself or allows others to give it to him is a blasphemer for taking that which rightfully belongs only to God. And anyone who gives him honor dishonors Christ.
I do not say that to be cruel, but it is true. The pope has no authority--none has been given to him. He is a mere man and should not be venerated. Furthermore, look at how he lives. Jesus, the God of the universe, had no place to call His own, lived in humble fashion, was hated by others, and was crowned with a crown of thorns. Compare that to the pope and you see disparity. He can act humble all he wants; his lifestyle speaks otherwise.

The Pope is only infallible when he speaks "ex cathedra" or "from the chair". Officially that has only been twice. However, a particular author researched history and said it was up to 5-7 times. Even if the Pope spoke from the chair that many times in 2000 years, it ain't many. The Catholic Church does not have a recorded count.
I believe that when we turn to another for inspiration (in the sense of standing in the place of God) our sense of awe and adulation is lowered as well.

So you are saying it is no problem to disobey the pope when he speaks on faith and morals as long as it is does not concern those two times you mentioned (the immaculate conception and the asumption of Mary)?
