I suspect because God knew in the hearts of the primitive ancient Israelites that they were NOT honoring God . . . but pursuing their own selfish lusts. Either way . . . Jesus and the holy spirit is today's source for spiritual guidance.

Of course God put the star there, the devil never points anyone to Jesus. God either by supernatural means or by the supernatural use of a natural event, guided the Wise Men to worship Jesus.
I'm not here to debate, more to consult.
As a Christian, do YOU personally feel comfortable with the pagan aspects of Christmas? Do you feel that attatching the birth of Christ to traditions that were previously only a part of the Winter Solstice makes it okay? Is there scriptural basis for changing the 'theme' of a pagan practice and turning it into something that is acceptable to God?
What about the lies associated w/ Christmas...Santa Claus, three wise men (not a scriptural teaching), the star of bethlehem being a gift from God etc.
You guys know that I'm a Jehovah's Witness so no, I don't celebrate. But why do you?[/quote Hi alicenavada... ...there are certain 'things" considered to be pagan by some that in fact may be so, depending on what you're speaking of...you mention Santa Clause, when I was a child I loved Santa Clause, and with great joy and expectation and anticipation I awaited for that wonderful night when he would come to give me gifts...it never did me any harm, nor did it harm anyone else I've ever known; the three wise men?... you're right, there were many more than three!!! They were called the Magi, or "seekers", they were experrts in astrology, (reading the stars!)...on December 25 of 2 BC as it entered retrograde, Jupiter reached full stop on its travel through the fixed stars. Magi viewing from Jerusalem would have seen it stopped in the sky above the little town of Bethlehem... FACT! Please go to my new thread in this forum and read it...I think it was a devine set up meant especially for you!! I celebrate because I love Jesus, His birth, and everything else about Him, and if this is what we do, this is what we do, because we love it!!! AMEN> Merry Christmas!...Love.

?? I can't say I agree that God would personally point out Christ for Herrod to kill. Wouldnt tht sort of defeat his purpose? But perhaps it was only the astrologers who noticed the star, that being their field and all. I don't really feel that the star was as important as people seem to think...

By the way, I find 'Christian Reviews' to be oddly contradictory. I am a Christian and I review movies. But never would I presume to say that I am somehow immune to the mendacity prevalent in many movies today...nor that I should go see them (ignoring the MPAA rating) in order to 'screen' them for my fellow Christians.

LOL
You're quite an enigma to me, alicenevada.
But I love ya and certainly CD wouldn't be the same without you!

But that's not what happened, in Matthew 2: 12 "But when it was time to leave, they went home another way, because God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod".

My friends tell me I'm painfully obvious and opinionated. In what way enigmatic, please?
Are you saying you literally believe that December 25 is Christ's birthday?
