In its original form, it told the story of Jessica Mydeck, who supposedly had a terrible form of brain cancer. Since the letter claimed she only has 6 months to live, her name was probably removed from future texts to keep it from being identified as outdated (or as the hoax it is).
There seems to be some question regarding the authorship of the poem, which was added to the chain letter in early 2001. When I originally wrote this article in 2002, David L. Weatherford took credit for the poem and said it was published in 1991 by the Russ Berrie Company. In December 2008, I was contacted by Mr. Henry E. Busby, who challenged Weatherford's claim and insisted that he was the poem's real author and had it published in 2000 on Poetry.com. Weatherford has the poem posted on his personal Web site."

So while you may like it as a poem, it's not from a dying little girl.
Thanks for that information. But no matter what, the content in the poem is what moved me, no matter who wrote it or for what purpose.

You make a good point, and I agree with you.
