I'm not really sure what you are trying to bring out here about Elijah. This prophecy of the one like Elijah was fulfilled back with John the Baptist. Unless of course the only thing you could be alluding to is the expression in
Malachi 4:5 - "American Standard Version"
Quote:
" . . . . before the great and terrible day of Jehovah come."
Now when you cross reference you come to these others scriptures speaking of the same thing.
Joel 2:31 - "American Standard version"
Quote:
"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh."
Here is the same scripture in the book of Acts that is quoting Joel's prophecy.
Acts 2:20 - "New Simplified Bible"
Quote:
"The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable (awesome) day of Jehovah arrives."
Then there is the other quote of Joel, by Peter and also Peter alluding to Zephaniah 1:14
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Zephaniah 1:14;
Here is Peter's quote at:
2 Peter 3:10 - "New Simplified Bible"
Quote:
"The day of Jehovah will come as a thief. The heavens will pass away with a great noise. The elements shall be disolved with intense heat. And the earth and the works in it will be burned up (destroyed)."
Clearly there is more going on here than just Israel or the United States. It's the entire world of mankind who is alienated from God are the focus of attention here.

Many Biblical prophecies are dual. The first "Elijah" was fulfilled in John the Baptist;

(Luke 1:17: And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.)

The second "Elijah" in Malachi 4:5 is a true Prophet who will appear before the "Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord." He is most likely one of the 2 Witnesses who will confront the Antichrist and the False Prophet during the Great Tribulation.
