Just wanted to get some thoughts on what some of you think happens the second we close our eyes and die the physical death. I`m already well versed on what the church system teaches as far as death,so I`m more interested in getting thoughts from others who believe in God. Others who have not been indoctrinated by the modern church system but believe the bible as the word of God or who have come out of the church system and searched for the real truth of God.

I believe what Paul said, absent from the body, present with Lord. And by the way spm, what happened to you in church? You must have had a terrible experience to be so down on church, what was it?

Yes, I too believe that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. If we are not actually with Him, I just know where ever we are it will be a glorious, peaceful place, and I think we will know that all is well with our soul...and we will wait...for His call to come up!! Amazing!

I actually enjoyed church very much for all the time of my life....over 40 yrs. I had no bad experience..all good...wonderful people...some of the best, friendliest, kindiest people I know. It`s not the people of the church..it`s the church system and the doctrine. I very plainly see the heresy and misinterpretation of scripture..After much study and prayer God opened my eyes to the heresy of the church. But that is for another thread..don`t want to go off topic. Thanks for asking though ILNC.

Same here spm. I had no problem with the people - it's the system.

Beyond death is life. Being alive to self is death and dying to self is life, both now in "life" and after "death".

So in a sense I see death as irrelevant, except that this damned stupid body goes where it belongs (off of me)

I believe when we die our spirit goes unconscious... like falling into a deep sleep... until the resurrection.

If we are one of the elect, we will be resurrected in the "gathering of the saints" to rule with Jesus Christ in the Millennium; if not, then we will be raised up in the final resurrection with the rest of mankind at the end of the Millennium... for the Great White Throne Judgment. (Rev.20:4-6).

My guess is, we close our eyes. (some don't get that far I suppose)

Quote:
Ecc 9:4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
When we die there is no memory, no love, no thoughts.

Until we get up once again, when God gets us up.

Quote:
1 Thess 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent [precede] them which are asleep.
:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

At the moment that the Lord descends from heaven; at that moment the dead in Christ shall rise.

They will begin rising first, then those who are alive shall be caught up together with them in the clouds.

As the dead rise up from under the ground, they will ascend upward and then those of us standing will be lifted with them.

Be comforted.

I believe that our soul is instantly taken to paradise. Our spirit returns to God.
Many years ago I had an 'out of body' experience, (before I became a member of the Lord's church), and I am fully aware that 'we' are more than our physical body.
I too am wondering about the 'church system' that you are so against. Where I am a member, we hear the bible being taught, nothing else....
If I go somewhere were there is more of man's thoughts, than of God's, I avoid that preacher.

My best guess is that I return to the state I was in before I was born - a state of non existence. There's no way of knowing what happens when we die, so I don't dwell on it or even think about it. Reincarnation, whisked away to a mansion in the sky, eternal bliss... sounds silly to me, but again, I have no way of knowing. Neither does anyone else.

My mother truly believes that the more she suffers on earth (and she's one miserable person), the bigger her mansion will be in heaven. I find it pathetic that she's so wrapped up in "meeting Jesus and living in a mansion where she'll experience no pain" that she's thrown away her life and does nothing with it, other than play the victim.
