Hi Buddy;
You make a very good point. I for one prefer study over merely reading.

I get my "daily bread" from a couple different study bibles.
I'm not currently doing anything systematic.
Just feeding on the word.

I read it and look at the tiny printed material at the Bible's bottom of each page. I find that helps a lot. Sometimes I am greatly inspired...like yesterday. I was into Hebrews 10. The words just fit right into what the church news was and some forum conversations.

We've been talking about 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. Paul's meaning of the Lord's Supper and who should take it or be allowed to take it.
Now, all the "study" materials have their opinions as to what this really says, but it is really deep stuff. Sometimes the people who've studied, they magpie what study materials say as if that is what God is telling THEM!

What if God is telling me something with this passage and it doesn't go along with the "study materials"? This is what is happening to me.

I'm being told that this is a passage about unity. The church at Corinth was telling people that they couldn't have the Lord's Supper. They were excluding people....for what reason, I do not know. Paul really isn't clear on why.

But that shouldn't be....EVER! Exclusion is wrong.

People who study, though, think that it is okay to exclude people who haven't examined themselves and therefore are unworthy.

My premise is that if you do not take the body and blood, then how on earth are you ever going to totally and authentically experience it.

The study materials teach incorrectly on this. I'm sure on this.

Well if they don't understand what they are taking, and they don't show the reverence it deserves, they would actually degrade jesus, thinking that he is just a piece of bread. or a sip of wine. That is why you have to be educated about what you are taking in the Catholic faith, out of reverence of our Lord.

I try to read and study on a daily basis...but I have to admit that I miss a day here and there... I shouldn't...but it happens.
As for your comment about churches being shy...i know what you mean..I seached for a long time. My church that I attend now is not "shy" but i went to many churches before finding this one. When you find the right one for you, you will know it. Some people prefer these "shy" churches...i was not one...so when i first went to my current church and I was overwhelmed with the all the "Hi! How are yous"...and the "We are so glad you cames" I knew I had found the one for me. Give a church more than one try though...they might just be having an "off" day. God will send you to the right places...give it time. Sometimes you must experience what you do not like to know what you do like.
I talk tooooo much to go to a "shy" church...lol.

Take Care
Sherry

Great delineation. There is definitely a difference. I would expand the OP's question further and ask how many of you have read the Bible cover to cover? If not, does that concern you? Maybe there is some knowledge in there that you never came across or were told that something was in there that really isn't. Studying the Bible in its entirety is essential for the TRUE Christian. It is God revealed.
