Most Christians I've seen online are there because they are looking for like-minded individuals and/or Christian fellowship that they can't find in the "real" world. I think they tend to be more sober minded online because they are often discussing God's Word and wish to handle it appropriately. I know I often refrain from humorous answers in a serious thread because I don't want to derail the discussion.

However, when not discussing Christian principles, many Christians can be hilariously funny. I've been pleasantly surprised to find some really funny Christians on City-Data. Some participate in this forum; many, however, do not so I might not always realize they are Christians until I get to know them.

I think humor, like other traits, is a tool. Some will use it effectively and often; others, occasionally or clumsily. However, most of us appreciate the results of the tool being used efficiently and wisely to create a thing of beauty.

Sadly, humor can also be a tool of destruction. Much of what passes for humor nowadays seems to fall into this category. Yes, it's funny. But is is profitable?
