Did the biblical god create man in that garden or as the older Sumerians myths suggest, man was created elsewhere and then placed in garden?

Quote:
The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
- Genesis 2:8

I think another Sumerian myth claims the gods created man after conferencing with each other which some suggests is where the biblical version gets its "let US make man in our own image" comes from. The myth indicates the gods created man to be their servant/worker to husband their garden and not for the romantic reasons today's Christian might believe.

Quote:
This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
- Genesis 2:4-7

Quote:
Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
- Genesis 2:15

Ya know...I have no idea either. Guess it depends on the 'thoughts' that are provided.

Below is a link to the story of Adam and Eve after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden. It is like a sequel to the story found in Genesis. This account is handed down by mouth from generation to generation... so there's no guarantee to its accuracy; however, it is quite interesting to read. Enjoy.

Are'nt there enough fairy-tales out there as it is? The truth's not enough to convict some, you think yet another fable gonna do it ?

I'm writing from memory but somewhere in my readings over the years, I think I read that in the Sumerian account, the gods or the god Enki (Ea, Eyah) created man in some area that would be considered east Africa today and then had him moved to Mesopotamia (The Akkadian E.din which we derive Eden). This might imply the "put" in Genesis.

Don't quote me, however.

Gen.2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 ∂ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

According to the Scriptures God formed Adam first. Then He planted a garden and put Adam there. However this does not prove the Sumerians *myths are true.

*3454. muthos moo'-thos perhaps from the same as 3453 (through the idea of tuition); a tale, i.e. fiction ("myth"):--fable.

1Ti 1:4 Neither give heed to fables (#3454)and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
1Ti 4:7 But refuse profane and old wivesí fables,(#3454) and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Tit 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, (#3454)and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
2Pe 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, (#3454)when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

You should recognize it. You've started similiar ones. It's designed as nothing more than a "combat thread". Simply respond to the O.P. and you'll see what I mean.
