Something I have wondered about is if Moses wrote the first 5 books of the Bible, why did he write about himself in the third person rather than the first person. King David wrote in the first person, as well as Solomon, Paul, Peter, etc....

Look closely at the end of Deuteronomy...Moses dies. Obviously he cannot posthumously write about his own death. I believe Joshua took over and continued Moses' original work.

You're lucky if he actually wrote any of them.

I honestly don't think Moses would incriminate himself like that... He did some pretty messed up things like commanding his people to kill 3000 of their brothers for making a golden calf. Then again, people "idolize" him for things like that (no pun intended)

You may not like it, but that's the beauty of many parts of the Bible and the candor of it's writers who also recorded their own failings. It 's only a further proof of inspiration and FACT that they are God's words and not necessarily those of the writers, although their own personal style was used and harmonizes with others over that long period.

I do believe it would however be equally criticized by YOU and other opponents of the Bible, had it been written with nothing more than "sugar and spice and everything nice". Kinda like a Walt Disney "Pollyanna" story with most of the not so flattering mistakes glossed over as was the historical case of recorded historical accounts with the Secular Egyptians, Persians, Babylonians, Romans right on down to our present day who hide their defeats and exagerate their achievements. Japan & Germany are prime examples of modern day Governments with an ambarrassing history and hiding the shame and minimumizing their past faults to later generations of school children.

Amazing

You're assuming these guys had any scruples about themselves during those times. They were products of their times, not to be judged by our "civilized" societies today.

Oh yeah, let's just take a good look at our so-called civilized world today.

Global ruination by destroying our own planet's environment.
Absence of any kind of peace now or in any foreseeable future.
Obscene greed which has brought down our Global Financial Economy
Broken families as never before in history, even from traditional family oriented countries.
Dirty Politics as usual in every single country on the planet.
An increase in every major type of crime and violence.

Yeah things are more sophisticated and enlightened today then they were back then. Perhaps you could show some scruples for once and cut the trash talk, and back it up with a possitive thread on what kind Secular ideas there are that will reverse all the evil things done by those claiming belief in God ??? You don't even have to mention God once. Just give us the pure as the driven snow unadulterated Secular TRUTH that is going to save and benefit mankind as a whole.

Notice I put the word "civilized" in quotes for precisely the reasons you mentioned. If Moses did the things the Bible claims it said he did in the world today, there would be calls for him to be tried in a war court. In his day, he was just going about normal business of the time. This was my point. It was not as if the writers were writing about something unusual for those times.
