A good example of willful sin would be Adultery, which is an act of sin
that occurs when a person chooses to set aside God's law and have sexual relations outside of marriage. Please take note that to commit Adultery is an act of sin, but the lust which precedes the decision is NOT AN ACT OF SIN, rather it is the manifestation of the Sin nature.

Jesus said:

"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman TO lust
after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
Matthew 5:28

Jesus was saying this: "The Pharisees have told you that you are
committing Adultery only if you actually have relations with a woman,
but I say to you that it is the intent of your heart that God judges.
If you look upon a woman lusting to have sex with her, and the only
thing stopping you is the lack of opportunity, then you have already
broken God's law in your heart."

The word TO means: "indicating intention, purpose or end." (Websters)
If a man is looking on a woman with the intention of lusting after her
then he certainly is not trying to avoid lust! He may be sure that his
heart is still set upon evil. He may also be sure that if he would
commit Adultery given the opportunity, he is not truly Born-Again
because John says that "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin."
(1 John 3:9)

Looking upon someone TO lust after them is a sin, but the Devil wants
Christians to think that just looking at the opposite sex and feeling
desire is also an act of sin. That is not true! It is simply the first
stage of temptation. Temptation to commit sin does come through lustful desires, fantasies, etc. but those lusts are not in themselves an act of sin.

If lust (desire) itself is an act of sin then Jesus committed sin because the
Bible says that "every man is TEMPTED when he is drawn away in his own LUST," and that Jesus was TEMPTED like as we are,".

Being tempted is not an act of sin....

Lightbulb temptation

Submitting to God early in the morning, will give you the ability to resist temptation from the devil in the afternoon, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God.
1 Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due
time,
Rear James 4:1 - 10.Resist . . . devil -- Under his banner pride and envy are enlisted in the world; resist his temptations to these. Faith, humble prayers, and heavenly wisdom, are the weapons of resistance. The language is taken from warfare. "Submit" as a good soldier puts himself in complete subjection to his captain. "Resist," stand bravely against.

He will flee -- Translate, "he shall flee." For it is a promise of God, not a mere assurance from man to man [ALFORD]. He shall flee worsted as he did from Christ.

that is not the way i learned it nor how the the story is told in church, by women, AA, latino, pretty much everybody
the way it works is men are wrong --when you got up you were wrong.
down hill all the way from there.
the chant of the 21st century towards men
any desires feelings or ambitions that you ever had were also wrong
you did not make a mistake you are a mistake
wow sounds like the devil doesn't it.

A blind quadraplegic who is lusting his/her brains out, is as far from the love of God and neighbor, as someone who is committing the physical act .

To say lust is not a sin, is IMHO
a lie from the pit of hell

I'm with Oakback.

Satan loves it when we justify our willful weaknesses. Ask for strength and it will be given. Ask with a desire to succeed and it will stick.

godspeed,

freedom

Harold:...I agree with you...as pertaining to the scripture regarding adultery. To my thinking, what it means to "look at a women to lust" means this: you say in your heart "if I ever get a chance to have sexual intercourse with that person, I will...". You have set your intentions in concrete. And your course. You instantly become an adulterer when you say "yes" to it, in your heart...when you say "if the opportunity ever comes...I will do it..". You have not decided to run from temptation, but rather to run towards it.
And...allow me to add to all the above, the Bible also says "whoever hates his brother is a murderer". Notice it doesn't say he "has murdered", it just says he "is a murderer". (Evidently, you can become a murderer, without having actually murdered anyone...just as you can be an adulterer, without having actually committed adultery). I take that to mean simply that one is capable of murder...(and/or adultery)...before they have actually done either act...that they are in fact a murderer, and/or adulterer, because they are just simply waiting for the opportunity to act...their heart is already "decided"...they have become a murderer, or adulterer, in waiting...

"Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him".

I happen to have a BIL (who shall go un-named) who has told my wife: "I hate my brother..." (speaking of his own blood brother)

Needless to say, I keep my eyes open regarding this man...

Best Regards,
Bud

Wrong! Indulging in sexual fantasy even if it is an immaginary woman is a sin..........If someone is engaging in impure thoughts those "lusts" are sins.....By the way Jesus did not Lust.......there was no sin in Him.....and He "only" was without sin.......That's why the rest of us need the Saviour; since we battle a sin nature inherited from Adam..... Jesus was tempted only.....but He could not and would not sin.....Only the Son of God could be so perfect........since he is God, He has no sin nature.....

1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Exactly! This is adultery of the heart. The devil has twisted this scripture to make people feel like they have sinned because of desire, which is only temptation.
