The bible does not clearly forbid drinking but the is a scripture which states not get drunk. i am only curious since most drinkers give that excuse. For most drinkers i know who tend to call themselves christians, tend to have unstable marriage and hard time coping to keep in line with God.

so is consuming alcohol a sin?
I would say the perception of one consuming alcohol infront of unbelievers could be a sin because what kind of testimony are you giving? not to mention you could be causing someone to sin
I heard a pastor say, you are one drink away from being drunk

When my daughter was in high school, her bible class teacher said this to the class. She responded, "Since gluttony is a sin, then couldn't you say, you're one sandwich from being a glutton?"
He didn't care for her actually, because she used her mind and didn't just accept what was being taught. Her college professors loved her though.
Jesus first miracle was making water in to wine. If it were a sin he surely wouldn't be causing everyone at that party to sin. There are many verses in the bible having to do with wine. Drinking wine is not a sin, drinking to get drunk and maybe doing something against the 10 commandments would be a sin. Driving drunk and killing or injuring someone, being drunk and taking God's name in vain, being drunk and coveting your neighbors house, committing adultery, stealing etc. If someone has a problem with drinking alcohol, they should stay away from it and not drink.
As a kid during the early 40's remember the minister coming by the house at christmas time and drinking some of my dads home made wine from the cellar. Never hurt anyone that I can recall.
I don't want any part of liquor of any kind at any time. For me, it's wrong, it does not glorify God, I would never want anyone I had been witnessing to to see me drink and I sure would not want to have a drink in my hand when Jesus returns.
