I doubt if people at Mardi Gras consider it a celebration of sin, and I know people at gay price parades don't. If you think flashing yourself and drinking a lot are horrible sins, then I doubt you'd go to Mardi Gras. I've never been to Mardi Gras, but I'm pretty sure its mostly a bunch of people just out for a fun time. Sometimes it's refreshing to put down your prim and proper "work hat" and let loose for a while. While in college, I used to go out to clubs, parties, etc. and drink, but no drugs. I guess at the time it was just stress release. Now I'm a parent so stress release is spending an hour before bed, after the kids are asleep, fast forwarding through DVR'd tv shows I've recorded, but not had time to watch! Spending time in bars or at drunken festivals just isn't appealing at this stage in life, nor appropriate for me.

Cause and effect...
If we are walking the walk, then we won't have the desire nor need, nor excuse to unwind, or act out in unseemly manners. I'm guessing that is why over time most find the whole party thing to be a waste of time and no longer a "fun time". Especially after a few STD's and hangovers realize themselves as the fruit of bad choices.
Replacing debauchery with the word "fun time" is a great way to silence the conscience and give excuse to blatant sin.
