Post News, More Americans say they have no religion.

A wide-ranging study on American religious life found that the Roman Catholic population has been shifting out of the Northeast to the Southwest, the percentage of Christians in the nation has declined and more people say they have no religion at all.

I was just talking about this subject. I think it is what the Bible means of the falling away.

Of course you do.

It might have a lot more to do with the exponential rise in religious extremism in the heartland that has defined our politics for the past decade. People are tired of it.

According to that article, membership in evangelical mega churches has increased from 200,000 in 1990 to over 2 million today!

That's just scary for a lot of mainline, good, spiritual people who are watching this massive cult pushing their beliefs into politics and society and all saying the same script. They have a lot of money, a simple political message, and tight organizing. It's hard to compete with that.

I grew up in a very Catholic area and no one ever forced their religion in our faces like what has happened. We went to church on Sunday, said our prayers, and enjoyed our lives. This is something altogether different.

That article is interesting. Just another clue to where we are today. I am convinced it is the falling away the Bible talks of. I see it in our church. People want a way to believe that doesnt cost them any changes in their lifestyle. They want the world and God too. Can't have both. If only they knew having God was having it all!
