The reason they are foreign to modern sensibilities is, and you are probably expecting this, because so many refuse to accept them no matter the amount of evidence for their reliability.
There is so much wrong with the literalist fundamentalist understanding that it would be impossible to address it all. The reason they are foreign to modern sensibilities is because they were written for and by primitive carnal minds not remotely similar to ours about conditions and issues not remotely similar to those that exist today.
Don't Hate Me Because I Tell You The Truth is the title of this because when someone asks a Biblical question they will get a Biblical answer and what many do not understand is that much of what we ask is Biblical and we dont even realize it.
And that is why you irritate and fail, Robin . . . they should be given the Christian answer . . . not the Biblical one.
And that is why you irritate and fail, Robin . . . they should be given the Christian answer . . . not the Biblical one.
ummm that is a distinction without a difference. What would you know of Jesus apart from the Bible?
It is impossible for Robin or anyone else to fail in converting people because we have no authority and therefore no responsibility.
Robin has both authority and responsibility to warn people who do not obey God they will be destroyed on judgment day. Since you do not obey Gods commandments he has rightly warned you.
Ezekiel 33:12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
Waffle, squirm and wiggle as you will - the Biblical conclusion is - you do not keep Gods commandments! You have been warned.

Ezekiel 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned;
We can know this by the many quoted excerps the early church leaders used in the first and second century letters they wrote. Do you know that there are so many quoted verses from the NT in the first and second century letters to be able to completely reconstruct the entire NT just from those letters give or take maybe 10%. The reason they are foreign to modern sensibilities is, and you are probably expecting this, because so many refuse to accept them no matter the amount of evidence for their reliability.

Origen (185–254 AD) One of the most well known early church fathers wrote:
Quote:
The differences among the manuscripts have become great, either through the negligence of some copyists or through the perverse audacity of others; they either neglect to check over what they have transcribed, or, in the process of checking, they make additions or deletions as they please.
Quote:
Some believers, as though from a drinking bout, go so far as to oppose themselves and alter the original text of the gospel three or four or several times over, and they change its character to enable them to deny difficulties in face of criticism. (Against Celsus 2.27)
I think he has a point, there is very little outside of the Bible about Christ. You have the gnostics, the early church fathers, the Quran, Josephus, the talmund, but much of this is false information that doesnt even relate to the trut Christ. Of course the early church fathers quoted scripture enough for us to construct a NT, but if you really look at it pretty much the entire NT is found in the OT.
