I decided to start this thread so as not to get another thread off topic.
I've really enjoyed reading the very rational, civil back-and-forth on the Pro-Lifers: At what point is abortion wrong? thread, but I'd like to go off on another related topic: opinions on abortion and the death penalty.
So, please tell me if you are pro-life or pro-choice and if you are pro death penalty or anti death penalty. And feel free to elaborate/explain your opinions.
Please - no attacks, let's keep it peaceful, just a rational, civil exchange of opinions. Everyone has a right to be heard. THANKS!
I believe if someone commits certain criminal acts they forfeit their lives. Look at all the murderers and rapists who reoffend once released. It is alarming.

I am for the death penalty. If you have the audacity to take someone's life then justice must be served.
Genesis 9:6 6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.
I really don't see the two as subjects to compare with each other.
Abortion is done to an innocent life and the baby does not even get a trial.
The death penalty is for someone who has done an aggravated death or series of deaths. In our state they get a trial and an automatic appeal or second trial. The penalty for a non-aggravated murder is life in prison. I found this out by being on a murder trial jury.

I'm against abortion.
And I am against the death penalty, if that surprises you folks
I guess I'll seek to be consistent on this one - we don't have the authority to kill an unborn baby to its worst ever extremity, a hardcore criminal.
I believe in confinement. And proper care of the confined individual, though he is a criminal.
March 25 is the feast of Saint Dismas. I used to visit prisoners on this day, long back. This was by no means an American prison, where the living standard can be much better.
The prisons I have been to, I have seen them, humans, starved, underfed, shabbily clothed, poor medicare and living in conditions worse than a stray dog in say, 1970s Bangladesh.
Whatever crime they may have done, it's not fair on our part to deny them the basic amenities for a human or kill them IMHO. Now, I am not even saying your differing opinions are misplaced. They are humans too.

While I am against death, I am fairly okay with hard labour. As long as it's not as bad as Israelities building an obelisk for the Pharoah getting whipped every now and then.
The law must prevent the criminal roaming free and confine him. The law must prevent the crime from happening again. But the law must not be one of Draco, seeking to inflict devastating punishment, we have progressed so much since the stone age.
Whatever his/her crime, the pain I will feel when my hand is severed is exactly the same he/she will.
