But surely I count also all things to be loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.
This is not talking about the knowledge of the scriptures but a knowing him as in a relationship .

Just a thought
And a good thought too!

Regarding your question about Greek , though i find it of extreme importance to gain a better understanding of the scripture , i would easily count it loss to gain a deeper relationship with my Lord and Savior .

The fact i quoted verse 8 again would surely suggest the point of the post , just like Paul said it's about knowing Him(intimacy) whom to know is life eternal

And how do we know if we know Him?

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

According to John anyone who does not keep His commandments and "sinneth" does not know God.

I base my whole relationship with the Lord on the foundation that He keeps me and apart from Him i can do absolutely nothing (John chapter 15). I approach Him on the basis of what He as done for me , i behold Him and as i do i am changed into His likeness.I have absolute confidence in His love for me that enables me to boldly approach Him . Where does such boldness come from ? that He is not reckoning sin against me.

Those who walk with the Lord do not need to shout about obeying commands they walk in the secret place they abide in the love of God
