Because of the size of the RCC.
The number of RCC abuse cases per capita is probably exactly on par with the number of abuse cases in other, smaller churches.
There are approximately 1.147 billion practicing catholics worldwide, so one might expect a few more scandals in an institution of such gargantuan proportions than in a smaller and less established faith.
The second-largest religious body in the US, for example- the Southern Baptists- has fewer than ten million practicing members worldwide.

There's a rather vast difference between the size of the Catholic Church and the size of its leading competitors.
Once you adjust for that difference, all religious faiths probably experience a similar rate of abuse scandals.

Okie...you are so right on. The thing about behaviors like this, people aren't going to do it out in broad daylight. It's all secretive and hidden. This is why friends and co-workers and even family members are often quoted, saying things like "he is a wonderful person and I KNOW he would never do anything like this." Well, duh, a pedophile isn't going to do this with a lot of people around who are going to observe the behavior and actions...it will be done where there no witnesses. So of course, a priest - or any pedophile - can operate under the radar for a very long time....until the victim starts talking. Even then, it could be difficult to prove when there were no witnesses.

Please read up on the psychological nature of displacement. And if

Thanks for the letter, pie. Well written

It's what I have been piping on and on with Ted, so long - the undertone of destruction.

Ted does not see it.

When a house is in disarray, the inmates romp things up on the inside. When coming out of the house, everyone goes on the defensive.

A deacon once told me that the Salem witch hunt would have been magnified a million times had it been orchestrated by the Catholics. Today, there isn't much literature on it and the whole lore has sort of entered the backpages of religious history.

Much of the anti-catholic diatribe is actually fumed by protestant organizations.

I know a few names who will raise their heads out of the burrows only to bash the Vatican. Let's give'em some time Probably they have taken the day off, it's Sunday.

That's just it...why does anyone have to bash anything!?!?

We are ALL sinners....all religions have sinners. Even the non-religious have sinners. It's like holding sins up to compare which group has the most and worst sins.

How stupid is that? You are all wasting time 'glorying' in the sins committed by others, when you should be repenting those that you personally are committing this very moment.
The sin of non-repentance is more prevalent than the sin of abuse and crosses into all segments of human kind!

Did you ask the Father to forgive you today? You should do this
at least once per day at a minimum.

Bashing others when your own house isn't in order is being self-righteous.

This is really sad ... But needs to be seen, and this seems the proper place for it.

But Dnick you and others claim the Catholic Church is the one true Church, above all other Churches, so wouldn't you expect better from our Church?

The Catholic Church keeps better records then other churches.
I would suspect percentage wise it may be higher in the Catholic Church, some put it alot higher than the numbers thrown around here., well north of 6%.

Unfortunately, abuse happens just about everywhere. Read below.
Yes abuse happens eveywhere, but I would think we would expect better from the Church.

I do not demean the Catholic faith, I think the Catholic faith is beautiful.
I myself and many Catholics have legit concerns about the institutional Church and those that are in power.
Constant complaints/destructive? Trying to bring attention to wrongs in the Church is not destructive to the Church, it is only destructive to those that are commiting those wrongs and to those that support the wrong doings by being enablers, making excuses and transfering blame.
