Or the speck of dust from our brothers eye ?.

3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Often misinterpreted as" i can remove the plank of wood in my own eye, then i can get the speck from my brothers".

Does this sound right to you "If your eye sin take your brothers eye out" ?

Know whats interesting about this parable? WE ALL HAVE PLANKS IN OUR EYES!

But if we don't realize it, we ignore the plank in our own eye and assume that plank in our brothers' eye is just a "speck".

What is interesting to me is that Jesus tells them to take the plank out of their own eye. In other words, He tells them to get it out for themselves. Certainly as Christians we can agree that it is IMPOSSIBLE for any of us to remove our own sin. Only He can do that. So basically, Jesus was saying to them that when they could do something that only HE could do, then they had the right to go fishing around in their brother's eyes. Not gonna happen.

It depends what you the view the "plank" is. Is the plank our sin? Or is the plank just something holding us back, symbolizing being blinded?

Also it could be a bigger parable than we are thinking, perhaps talking about the elect and the non-elect. Before the elect are ready to help bring the non-elect into the Kingdom, first Christ must remove the plank from the elects' eyes. Then the elect will be able to see clearly so they can help the non-elect clear their eyes.

Just some random thoughts.

I have a friend who is cheating on his wife and so I confront him. He calls me a hypocrite and tells me who am I to judge because you see I am cheating on my wife also.
Now if I am not cheating on my wife and I tell my friend to stop cheating on his wife because I see him going down a wrong path then I am JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY. I am not a hypocrite. One thing we can't judge is someone's salvation.

Wow!
i'm an Atheist and I'm amazed at how you are looking at this the wrong way...

What the "author" is trying to say, is that you can not help anyone if you have a problem of the same nature yourself! Help yourself, and when you're well, then you can help others.

Regardless of what the plank is (and you have some interesting thoughts on that), my point is that it must be removed by Christ, not ourselves.

I like your emphasis on HELPing others, not condemning them. Thanks for sharing, Evidence.

Amen legoman

But on the other hand you may have a strawman friend who is being unfaithful to his wife ,then we can jump right in line him up read him the riot act and hope that he listens and repents but if he is already a christian he can't do that because this strawman is a calvinist and they only repent when they first believed and openly confess there is no need to repent after believing, all said and done it's a very unlikely event as we try our best to hide things from others .Unless we are spying on them.

Usually it's... "I'll pretend I do not have a plank, then I can tell em God's gonna get ya"
