What does "Justification" mean to you? What do you think the Scriptures mean by us being justified?

Your thoughts are neither right nor wrong. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on this.

Obviously it must be important since Paul uses the term so much?

Eusebius

In both the Old Testament Hebrew and the New Testament Greek, the words translated as "justified," when used in the context of our relationship with God, mean basically the same thing: To be MADE righteous; to be DESIGNATED as blameless, without guilt.

As you can see, being "justified" isn't something we can do for ourselves. It cannot be earned. It is a free gift from God.

How we receive that gift, is another subject.

It means that our sins are removed, and we are considered righteous by the Blood of Christ--attributed to us by faith. Abraham was considered righteous by faith, we are also.

Thanks to those who have contributed their thoughts on justification. Anyone else?

Justified or justification means to be made "Holy" or perfect in the sight of God. Not just sometime in the future, but now.

When God demands perfection, he talks in the present tense...
Matthew 5:48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

That is why, though I'm a sinner, I am in the sight of God perfect now. Because I have been [past tense] made justified!

When we believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, God the Father makes a judicial imputation of His very own righteousness to us. God see's His own righteousness in us and is then able to pronounce us as being justified. Additionally, God the Holy Spirit enters us into union with Jesus Christ and so we share the righteousness of Christ. We actually have a double share of divine righteousness which does not rightfully belong to us, but by the grace of God He has done this for us so that we may be justified in His sight.

I'm curious if any of you believe that justification means "to set right."

In printing lingo when text on a page is justified it is set right.

Could it be that our sins are justified due to what Christ did in that they are set right?
