Two verses show that when we physically die, when the body dies, our spirit and soul are transferred to our Heavenly home.

Philippians 3:20-21. For our citizenship is in Heaven, (believers are sojourners, pilgrims on this earth, we are in the world but not of the world),from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior ( we are EAGERLY WAITING FROM HEAVEN, and therefore wide awake) the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.(it is the body that is resurrected. And the soul and spirit then enter into the resurrected body.)

Those who have died physically, are in Heaven waiting for the rapture or resurrection. They are on the Heavenward side of the rapture, and those who are alive on the earth at the time of the rapture are on the earthward side of the rapture.

1 Thessalonians 4:13,14. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep (a metaphor for the death of the body), that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope. 14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. (The soul and spirit of the believer will accompany the Lord when He comes from Heaven to the level of the clouds and be united with their resurrected body. And again, 'fallen asleep' is a metaphor for the physical death of the body.)

The soul and spirit (which is the real you) are alive and awake in Heaven, while the physical body is in a state of decay in the ground, and thus must be resurrected, and transformed into a body of glory, and incorruptability.

The passages in Ecclesiastes such as Ecc. 9:5 where it says, '...for the dead do not know anythng, nor have they any longer a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten,' are the thoughts of a man who had turned his back on God and was looking at life from 'under the sun'.

Ecclesiastes is an autobiography of Solomon at a time in his life when he had forgotten about God and was in a back slidden or reversionistic state of being. His thoughts were not from the divine viewpoint, but rather his thinking was from the standpoint of a person who could only think as a soulish man thinks. His were human viewpoint thoughts.
In the interest of truth, and because God wanted to record what the thoughts of a back slidden man were, for our benefit, He allowed Solomon's erroneous thoughts, his mistaken beliefs, to be set down in the Word of God.
Ecc. 9:5 does not reflect God's thinking. It is not a true statement. It is the muddled up thinking of a man who had drifted off course from his relationship with God and reflected the thinking of a man living his life 'under the sun.' That phrase is used many times in Ecclesiastes.

Soul sleep is a heresy. The Bible states plainly that when the soul and spirit depart from the body, they both are transferred into the presence of God, where we can start to fully experience the eternal life that was ours from the moment we believed in Christ.
