John 14:8 "Jesus told him " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me".
Acts 4:12 "There is salvation in no one else, there is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them".
I believe what it takes to be saved is asking Jesus to forgive us of our sin, accept Him as your savior, true repentance of sin. Baptism is what follows as a sign of obedience to the Lord, it is a symbol of Christ death, burial and resurrection, I don't believe it saves anyone, only Jesus saves, it what we do to honor God. God provided Jesus as the way to have an eternal relationship with him, there is no other name or way to be saved according to the Bible, which I believe.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling ILNC! I appreciate your input.
The Central issue is what does one do with Jesus. Here is what the scriptures say:
Act 4:10
"let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
Act 4:11
"This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.
Act 4:12
"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Rom 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Rom 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
2Cr 7:9
Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.
2Cr 7:10
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation,
Tts 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
1Pe 1:9 receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of [your] souls.
Believing - not just repeated words, growing up in church or a tradition -but an intentional, SINCERE HEART belief based on Faith in His work, repentence for sins and a life completely committed to following Him.
Walking with Him DAILY - to be a Christian is not just something we are.....like the color of our skin. It is a lifestyle - it is the central point and focus of our lives. God will fill our hearts with love for others, He will give us a desire to exhibit his nature and character in all we do. In other words, He will take care of everything else if we have Him in the driver's seat.
Understanding and Believing Who God is and Who Jesus is CENTRAL to the faith. Most else is peripheral.
To be saved one has to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. That he was born of a virgin, was crucified, died , was buried and was raised to life by God the FAther. That he had suffered and died for our sins.
One must also recognize and acknowledge the sin in our lives.
be willing to turn from our sin(repent).
Invite Jesus to come into our lives, to become savior, Master and Lord of Our lives.
We do that by praying to God, talking to him, asking for forgiveness for our sins and giving him control of our lives.
We then join a church that is Bible Teaching, Bible Believing, where it preaches the death, burial resurrection and coming again of Jesus Christ.
Be baptised to show your obedience to God
Read your bible daily(start with the book of John), pray daily, and get involved in your local church.
and live life for the purpose of Glorifying God, not others and not ourselves, by serving others and doing the words of the bible.
John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that he Sent his only Son, to die to pay or sin debt, that who ever believes in HIM(Jesus) will not perish(go to Hell) but have life eternally(forever).
The bible tells us that All have sinned and come short of Gods glory.
It said that, "For the wages(price) of sin is death(hell) but the gift of God is eternal life(salvation) through Jesus Christ.
Jesus tells us that He is the only way, the only Truth and the only Life and no one can go to heaven but by accepting Him.
Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.
John 20:31
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
John 3:16-18
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
That pretty much sums it up.
I don't have time at the moment to go into great detail on my doctrinal belief, however, I believe that once saved a Christian should be Baptized as a symbol of putting off the old man and the washing away of sins.
I will try to add more later.
Great thread!
1. God loves us (John 4:10)and sent his son to die and become sin for us, paying our penalty for sin.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
2. We must understand that we are sinners and that without God's intervention, we would have eternal separation from God.
Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23
3. We repent and accept the gift of salvation (Acts 3:19, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:13).
I personally believe all the above happens rather simultaneously when we are under conviction by the Holy Spirit and submit to the love and power of God.
And I believe the word 'believe' means to 'trust' -- not just believe he exists. As someone once said in conversation, there's a difference in knowing OF God and actually KNOWING God.
If we had to do something to earn salvation, we'd never have it and it would no longer be a GIFT.
thanks dreameyze and kawg and FL Yall are so right on with Jesus and I send my blessing yall, Praise the name of our Lord and savior Jesus
