As someone has already observed, the only thing that God had told Adam not to do was to eat the fruit of the "tree of knowledge of good and evil". Does that mean that doing anything else was OK? Taking a chainsaw to Eve, for instance. And if Adam and Eve had no knowledge of good and evil before eating the fruit, how could God be so cross about them doing so -- after all, they wouldn't have known that it was wrong.

As so often, we have to look at what the word "knowledge" actually means. The Hebrew word used here is the same word as in contexts like "and the man had knowledge of his wife". It doesn't mean that he could recognise her at a bus stop - it means he had sex with her. In other words, eating of this fruit meant that Adam and Eve acquired a personal and intimate involvement with good and evil. Where they previously had been completely open with God (walking with him in the garden) and sharing /drawing directly on his perceptions of good and evil (they were after all made in his image), they now took over that role for themselves -- which is exactly why they could no longer maintain that direct relationship with God. Why not even Moses, Elijah or any of the other OT heroes could look directly at God "or you will surely die", as Adam was warned. Why Jesus had to come.

So what was the sin? It was egoism - wanting to grasp at equality with God (the reverse of Philippians 2:6). Adam and Eve both knew perfectly well what was right and wrong both before and after eating the fruit; what changed after they ate it was that they put themselves in charge of deciding which was which.

It is God who personally does the act of imputing Adam's, and not Eve's original sin. ''For as in Adam, all die...'' (1 Corinthian 15:22)

eve sinned first, but adam takes the blame.
ok

It was Eve who sinned first, as it is very easy to convince or deceive women unlike men. The sin commited by Eve is Eating of the apple. Women does not commit sin by their own, but they are very easy influenced by the evils of the society. Hence women need protection by men in all angles.

You make me laugh! Unlike men...good one. According to the story, Adam did not need to be deceived. He just simply took it. No thought process involved with him at all. He didn't hesitate. Which tells me a lot about ole Adam...and it is not good.

Sin WAS in the world before Eve ate. Unless a talking serpent that has conversations with people telling them to defy God is sinless. I find it odd that SIN ITSELF was wrapped around the branches of the tree in the center of the garden which was supposedly a perfect place. But apparently Eve was left alone by both God and Adam to have a chat with a snake hanging out in a tree. Sorry, but that explanation of sin is just crazy. It would be like me getting a pet and putting them in a room with a biscuits all over the room, but putting a steak in the middle and telling them don't touch it, then walking out and expecting the dog to leave the steak alone.
