Hebrews 1 1In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exactrepresentation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
2 Cor 3
17And the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty; 18and we all, with unvailed face, the glory of the Lord beholding in a mirror, to the same image are being transformed, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
18and we all, with unvailed face, the glory of the Lord beholding in a mirror, to the same image are being transformed, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
... Jesus was simply not just another son of God.. . . Jesus' Sonship was understood as indicative of deity (Jn. 10: 36, 38).
Really?
John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
This passage, you think, assumes the deity of Jesus?
It does not say that.
I do not see it.
God is spirit and was in Jesus.
That same spirit 'Christ' was later made available to us all, if we believe.
God in Christ in me.
Jesus has been the only physically born son of God; whereas we are born again, born spiritually as Jesus' brothers. Joint-heirs of the Kingdom.
The answer is that Jesus has two complete natures,
Always remember that, Jesus is both God and man ..
We share in the human nature of Jesus,,,but we do not share in his God nature.
Jesus is fully God Almighty, that is something we will never be.
Remember the incarnation is God becoming man, not man becoming God.
We are the brother of Jesus because he is fully human...
But we are not the brother of God because we would need to become God to be that....we never become God, so we will never become the "brother" of God.
But you just said that we can become sons of God by Jesus being 100% human...
Jesus was not God's brother but his son. How then do you say we cannot be the brother of Jesus because Jesus is God?
I totally understand the need for Jesus to be fully human but I don't see the need for Jesus to be GOD... If Jesus receives the spirit of God like we do (we see the disciples perform the same miracles as Jesus did yet all they had was the Holy Spirit) then Jesus did not have to forsake his Godhood to come to earth to receive God's Spirit to minister... there is no point in his prior Godness. Jesus as fully human and not God works just as well...
What advantage is it for us (and Jesus for that matter) is Jesus is God rather than a prophet of God/Son of God?
I copied this in part from a website that defines the trinity doctrine:
Trinity Doctrine - Foundation of the Christian Faith
What is the Trinity Doctrine? In a nutshell, there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit. The three persons of the Godhead are coequal and co-eternal
This is as far as I needed to go to know this is not scriptual in its’ concept, for me this piece of scripture nullifies it:
Joh 14:28 - Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greaterthanI.
Since Jesus said this, (that He is not coequal) the Trinity doctrine cannot hold up
Just to make it clear: I believe that God is the creator of all that we know to be the creation and that Jesus is His Son sent to save His creation and the Holy Spirit is of God,
I also believe that Jesus is The image of God the Father and has like mind
How then do you say we cannot be the brother of Jesus because Jesus is God?
Say what?....LOL
I believe if you check, I have said, OVER AND OVER that we are the brother of Jesus Christ!
We are called his brother because he is fully human.
It is His human nature that we can identify with as our brother.
We are not God's brother, that would be silly...LOL
It's like the Catholic name for Mary "The mother of God"
This is talking about the human nature of the Word.
The human nature of the Word has a mother.
Thus you can say and be correct that Mary is the mother of God, for the Word (and remember the Word is God Almighty) became flesh and was born of a woman.
But we are not saying that before the Trinity came along there was Mary....that would be silly too
The 3 members of the Holy Trinity are all equal in "nature" but each is different in "position"
The position of the Father is "greater" than the Son.
Equal in nature, greater in position...
