Jesus saves us BY His own person working in us to bring us to salvation by putting down sin in our own flesh. That is HOW He saves us. When His Spirit is in us then we put down the lusts of our flesh so they don't bring forth sin.

Some preach that we are simply saved because of Jesus - nothing else need happen except that you simply believe that. They will say you don't have to practice righteousness because you will simply be righteous.

The doctrine of the Nicolatanes was where one simply had to confess their sins (without need of walking contrary to sin) and that they would receive salvation.

Beware of the message that you can't walk contrary to sin because that is contrary to Christ. Anyone that Has Christ can walk contrary to sin for He is Powerful to do so.

Paul

For once Paul and I agree on something. Well said, Paul.

To the contrary, the Bible itself is quite clear that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Titus 3:5-9 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,6) whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,7) that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8)This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.9) But shun foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law; for they are unprofitable and worthless.

Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it (salvation) is the gift of God; 9) not as a result of works, that no one should boast.

Romans 4:5 Now to the one who works, his wage is not reckoned as a favor, but as what is due. 5) But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the FREE GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Acts 16:31 '...Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved...'

John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 20:31 'but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

2 Tim. 1:9 who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

John 6:28-29 Then they asked Him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent"

Regarding sin :

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (This is true of both believer and unbeliever, but believers are being addressed here.)
God's provision for when we sin as believers:

1 John 1:9 If we acknowledge our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

All sin was paid for in full by Christ on the Cross and is not an issue either in salvation, or in maintaining salvation. Sin in the believers life simply puts him out of fellowship with God, which means he enters into a state of carnality, where he is under the control of his sin nature (the old man). He will come under divine discipline if he continues to sin but will never lose his salvation.
Hebrews 12:6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES".

Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor thngs to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing,( that includes you yourself), shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jude 1:24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

As believers we are going to sin and God has provided a means of restoration to fellowship so that God the Holy Spirt is controlling your soul instead of your sin nature.

Your sins were judged, but not forgiven at the cross. When you believe in Christ for salvation, every sin you ever committed up to that point, is forgiven because it was paid for at the cross. As a believer, every sin you commit is forgiven at the point that you name it to God, because it was paid for at the cross.

God doesn't need or want our help in maintaining our salvation. He does it all by Himself. So get your oar out of the water, and let God row the boat all by Himself. It's called Grace.

Again, the scriptures are clear that Grace cannot even be accessible but by Faith:

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

See that? - Faith is required to access Grace. Surely you don't believe that dead Faith - Faith that has not works can access Grace. But to clarify, I will ask you:

Can Dead Faith access Grace?

No but the faith that comes by hearing can be put and accessed into His grace

All things of God in the life of the believer are born out of relationship with Him , our walk with God is not about doing, keeping or being, it's about abiding, the branch does not struggle to produce fruit, it remains connected to the vine and produces fruit.

The scriptures are clear that Faith is access to Grace. They are clear thar Faith without works is dead. That means that Dead Faith cannot access Grace. Thus works are a requirement to continue in Grace.

Yes but the faith you and i have comes by hearing, where is it coming from?.
Why do you doubt believers are walking in grace and doubt the Lord is working by His grace in their lives ?,after all the written word tells us we are His workmanship, it tells us He is working in us both to will and to do , and it also tells us He's the Author and finisher of our faith.
Trust the Lord that He is working in your life and in the lives of others . We are being conformed to His image.
He is able to save to the uttermost them that come to God by Him.

Yes the Faith comes by Hearing the Word of God. You next question is a fallacy since I never said that I doubt the believer are walking in grace or that He is working by His grace in their lives.

Well what is the point of your post ? Who are the believers that think you can't walk contrary to sin ?.
As we decrease God increases in our lives . God is bringing all believers to a place were we are bankrupt when it comes to producing righteousness of ourselves.
We are growing in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ .

A believer is one that can walk contrary to sin. We can never of OUR works produce righteousness but of HIS works through us we can. Remember, Grace is a gift and not of ourselves. It is TRUE that works are required but not OUR Works but rather His Works are required to be performed by us. He has the copyright to all GOOD Works whether we perform them or not.

So the only way to grow in Grace is Faith plus works.

Paul
