Some are unhappy, if they don't see themselves as a "filthy" rag.
Apparently, their gratification depends on suffering or humiliation.
Nonsense! You seemed to be saying salvation is by works. I was merely pointing out we all have missed the mark. Salvation is by faith in Christ's redemptive work.

If by salvation you mean scoring a passing grade at judgment time - nope. That's not what counts at all.
Not. At. All.
How you lived your life - what you DID in your life matters - nothing else.

No, nobody is saying that we earn salvation. Reformed theologians bend over backwards to avoid the implication, however, to the point that some even discourage doing good deeds in spite of such references as Hebrews 10:24. Faith means nothing withoutr that commitment to active love that IS the message of Christ.
That doesn't mean they can't stop. Following Christ's instructions to His disciples to "love God and each other" daily and repent when we don't is the way to minimize missing the mark.

You just don't get it. Salvation has nothing to do with what WE do. Salvation is what Christ DID. It is finished. Our task is sanctification under His perfect agape love. THAT requires that we "love God and each other" daily and repent when we don't. As nate said "it is not about formal worship, but about living the life."

And, if you keep his commandments to love one-another, you won't miss the mark.
That is one single teaching from Jesus--Jesus taught many truths one needs to apply daily in their lives. Jesus taught--proof of ones love for him was by --listening-- to him( here means learn every teaching and apply daily).
An ultra important one is--- Man does not live by bread alone, but by every utterance from God. The whole bible, needs to be studied, learned and applied daily--how many do?

Love covers a multitude of things.
