It's good to rework the idea of "heresy" too. In popular religious thought it seems to mean an idea so wrong about something that you don't qualify to be saved. The original word it's ususally pasted over in The King James version (which is better than most) means "sectarian, or, divisive." It really makes a difference when you spend 40 years trying to perceive who is creating rejection rather than fellowship and who is causing division rather than making peace. We need to be making ideas more important to debate and hold lightly while we align with the Prince of Peace. In humble love of the truth we will go farther with the free contributions of the members of the body of Christ around us than centrally controlled doctrinaire.

I'm not going to dismiss the hope to understand aright and that we can know the truth about everything. But you should have noticed how much disagreement there is among friends in the Lord when people open up. That should clue you in to something. In Ephesians it says, "...walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Ep 4:1-3) And a little later, while persuing spiritual unity, we are built up to go on to unity of what we believe and understand, "...Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God..." (vs.13)

Besides, only a few centuries ago for a couple of hundreds of years we were burned at the stake for having any portion of the Scriptures in our own language by those who determined what was "orthodoxy." Do you think that the institutions that can be joined by even such as John Gacy who taught a class of doctrine in one, just because they "possess the microphone," should determine what anybody should believe? The mainstream is mostly made up of people who give their minds away to some group or a teacher and have never read the Bible for themselves. That is the way it is. I've come to believe "The Truth" is much more precious and rare, and that only those who qualify enter, though the door is open to whosoever will. (What is written in, for instance, Philippians chapter three would be irrelevant to us if it was not true that) incorruptible immortality has been freely available since Jesus opened the way two thousand years ago, even before; but, how many have entered in? We will better understand when we are helping one another reach the goal according as we are led by the Spirit of truth. After all, love is the distinguishing feature of those under the discipline of the Holy Spirit of Jesus.
