Just wondering, do you read the other forum..... Atheism and Agnosticism? Or do you feel that the stuff posted over there is a bad influence that's best left alone?

Btw, I read them all.

Personally I don't read it. I have participated a couple of times but it's like you said.....best left alone. I feel it's toxic.

Like Ilene says, it can be, and most often is, "toxic" to Christians. Doubtless it would also be to Orthodox and Conservative Jews, if we had any around here (I don't think we do).

The only justification I have for participating is the fact that I know CD has a big readership--a lot more people read these forums then post at them. If someone is lurking there to "learn" more about atheism/agnosticism, and sees a total absence of "Christian presence," they might interpret that as "the Christians are in retreat" (meaning, there is no Christian counterargument to the anti-Christian vitriol that is often presented). Moreover, nearly every time I read I find a distortions about Christianity and about Catholicism specifically.

I believe that by taking the time to CORRECT these distortions, that "innocent lurker" might actually learn something--and a little voice at the back of their mind might say, "don't bite on everything these uber-confident atheists/agnostics/pagans have to say about Christianity."

Most days I don't have the energy to wade into there. When I do, however, I do it with the desire to "stand up" for God, in the hope that some anonymous reader will be somehow moved to "dig a little deeper" into the anti-Christian propoganda that is regularly peddled there instead of accepting it at face value.

Toxic?

Oh, next will we be saying we dont go to rough neighbourhoods because they are toxic too?
Or we dont socialise with the unsaved on our street?

I dont like getting into pointless, heated debates with people but its a good way on the "other" forum to meet people and start conversations over dm.

GOD BLESS

Amen....Ilene ! I don't read it and never have participated in that forum. That is there space and I respect that !!!

Also the Lord tells us.....
2 Cor. 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Now, that is not to say.....I don't associate with Atheist because I do, my brother is one and have a really good friend who is. We just stay away from the topic of God..... it comes down to respect for one another !!
Yet, going into a forum that is set apart for them and posting in it doesn't seem to me that conversations could be healthy or beneficial for anyone.
Like Ilene said, toxic !!!

I don't think a new christian or a weak christian should argue with them..but someone that is strong in the Faith would be able...

That is not saying that you should not talk to them, how else would you witness...and if you have a good friend that is atheist and you stay away from the topic of God...aren't you being unevenly yoked to them?...Jesus ate and drank with sinners....what does that tell you?...Maybe we should discover what the term "yoked" meant to them back then...then we could realize what it means to be unevenly yoked...
