To me, it seems so harsh and wrong to say that. I mean, we are human, aren't we??
A non-christian is like a pagan, worships a lot of other things, other Gods, animals in some cases, even aliens and devices.
But I personally don't have a problem with non-christians as long as they don't bugger with the belief/faith of their spouses.
Because, we all know "true" love knows no boundaries. With true love also comes respect/tolerance/sacrifice for the other individual's tendencies.
It's not like "if your love is true, you must relinquish your religion and submit to mine". That kind of attitude is selfish and chauvinistic. It's manipulative.

Are you talking about being unevenly yoked. There is a reason God wants us to live by this standard. If you marry someone who is an unbeliever and you are a believer, there can be problems. It will be obvious that the person who does not believe in God, want be able to mentally understand or comprehend when you are talking about spiritual things. I mean help you when you are in a spiritual battle. How can they, if they don't understand what you are deing with.
I guess my question would be why would anyone want to be unevenly yoked with a person that is not on their level?
I think you should marry for love, and understanding of each other..If you love an unbeliever, perhaps God approves and by your marriage a new believer will call on Him I do think a couple should know what each other believes before they become too serious about each other and be totally honest about it, because (in my case) could lead to many serious problems down the road..
I think it is easier if a man and a woman are of the same faith but not something that Jesus ever condemmed. Am I wrong?
They got the idea from God, His Word
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)
Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Of course you aren't. Jesus never made any such comment. Too many people put words (their own words) into so called "scripture" and pretend "This is what Jesus wants!"

Make that Paul. Not "God." and remember Paul was into rules.....he loved rules, both before conversion and after. Jesus never said anything about it one way or another.

Paul got his teaching from Jesus, not from himself.

But you can be unevenly yoked with friends also.
Been married over a decade without that problem. good theory tho
OP: I guess depends how heavily religious (or not) the people marrying each other are.
If there's going to be a problem its going to show up before the marriage I'd think. You can sorta tell if your dating a Fundamentalist Bible Thumper that quotes scriptures every few minutes as opposed to someone who just goes to Church on Chistmas every year. Huge difference.
