Default Christianity 101:

Let's try to come up with what we believe to be the basics of the belief of Christianity. Spunky posted that these small differences in doctrine or belief aren't what is going to keep us out of heaven, and I agree with that. Kawgpz550 posted the small differences really are the explanation for the different denominations of Christianity, again I agree.

In our lively discussions of subjects we seem to be presenting much less of a united belief to those that aren't Christian (which I think Jerz brought up, pardon me if I'm wrong on that one) than I actually think we would like to. So let's show them that we are ultimately all on the same team and outline the similarities instead of the differences of the Christian denominations for a change. Anyone game for this?

Wow, this could really start more controversy than not I am afraid, but here is my first thought:

Christianity believes that Jesus Christ was truly God and truly man and came to earth to ultimately save us from our sin and pay the price that we were not able to pay.

Those who believe in Jesus and obey the Bible's teachings are called Christians and will be in heaven with God when they die.

Is that tame enough? I am afraid it won't be.

I would say I agree. It is the 5 second version but I'll go along. unfortuantely, there are people who would argue that you dont have to obey the Bible to be Christian. That one I dont get.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the argument made (somewhere on here) was that you do not need the Bible to be Saved, and therefore to go to heaven (because that happens through Christ alone). And I don't think it was the Bible, but believing the Bible is the Word of God. Again I'm a bit fuzzy, but I think that was it. What do you think?

This is Christianity 101:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Duh! why didn't I think to post this...it really is the summary of the baics...LOL I do think though that to be inclusive of all Christians we would have to omit the two bolded lines as those two lines cause controversy and this thread is focusing on the similarities between Christian denominations...but the rest is definitely the basics.

Shux! Nothing left to be controversial about. That definitely sums up the core of things.

Unfortunately, This is the biggest mistake organized religions make is believing THEY are the TRUE CHURCH and it just confuses and turns people away.
If we are all into this as Christians you think it was the BLOOD OF THE LAMB that we have in common!!

Now I am confused. . I thought I was told that Catholics don't believe they are the only Christians or that they are only Church. Now is this not true? Do they believe everyone else is doomed????
