Just to be a pain in the butt, I'd like to point out that there are two main folders listed in the topics Religion and Philosophy. The two folders are Christianity and Atheism and Agnosticism. That leaves out a lot of people.

I am reminded of the time I went to a car race and before the action started, a minister stood in front of the standing crowd and said a prayer into the P.A. system. He concluded his prayer with, "in Jesus Christ our Savior... Amen". At which point I quietly whispered to my friend, "I guess the race officials figure that the crowd's Muslims and Buddhists are deaf."

Our founding fathers would take one look at what we've done and say "no thanks". Believe it or not, they didn't believe in diversity as much as we think.

Well I guess they could delay the race and give each religion and each spin off denomination a chance to say a prayer..And lets not forget the Pagans, Native Americans, etc, etc.. and also the Atheists should have a chance to refute all the praying..

Or we can simply be respectful listen or not... and get on with the National Anthem and hope the soloist doesn't drag it out for 10 minutes.

It's just demographics. Most Americans claim Christianity and so it seems the majority factor warranted it's own sub-forum.

The atheists wished for a section where they could share their stuff without being evangelized at every turn. Granted.

Everything else goes under religion and philosophy (there are Islamic, Buddhist and other world religion threads over there).

Seems to work fairly well.

See, as far as the prayer is concerned, what they could have done is have a generic prayer. No utterance of Jesus, and never the word "god". Maybe something like "To you who has created the world in which we live"... Done right and no Christian would have known the difference, and idiots like me would have kept his mouth shut. A second idea would have been no prayer at all. As my dear old pappy would say, "A person won't miss something that was never there."

As for this forum, well like it or not, there's still a lot of folks who aren't included in either atheism or Christianity. I mean, that's just the facts. Personally, I don't care. But when some overly sensitive non-Christians make it a problem, just think of me and think, Well maybe that jerk named Smith wasn't so dumb after all.

You are not left out. The religion and philosophy forum itself is open to all belief systems. These are just little side forums in that main religion and philosophy sub forum.

Firstborn,

Well, I'm an agnostic, so I have one of the folders. To be forthright, I'm really am just being a pain in the butt. But when I first came to this forum about a week ago, I saw two, main religious folders, and neither covered Buddhists, Muslims, or Jews. Saying that these three groups don't really need a folder is a little like telling some Jews that they don't need a synagogue because they can congregate in the gymnasium at the YMCA.

Spread the foundation too thin and it'll crack.
