In order to believe a lie one must first reject the truth. Before Satan can deceive anyone there must first be a rejection of God's revealed truth. The principle is stated in 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12.
2 Thess. 2:10 'and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11) 'And for this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they might believe what is false. 12) In order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.'
God allows us to go down the path we choose. If we choose the truth then God will reveal Himself to us. If we choose the world and its religious systems over the truth, God will allow Satan to deceive us.
Many people refuse to believe the revealed word of God concerning the reality of the need to be saved from the certainty of eternal condemnation apart from faith in Christ. The reality of the existence of that place described as the lake of fire, among other descriptions, is to much for their sensibilites. And so they refuse to believe the Bible's warnings concerning it. Some of these people don't even believe the Bible is the word of God. And so they feel free to dismiss those things which offend them as the doctrines of men. Those things that are in reality the stated word of God.
They ignore the many passages that declare the necessity of believing in Christ for salvation. Or they come up with the completely unscriptural notion of being given the opportunity to believe in Christ after death. When presented with the fact that most of what is revealed concerning hell or the lake of fire was spoken by Jesus Christ Himself, they simply dismiss it. They may say ''well, that's just your interpretation of the Bible.'' They may also proclaim that you do not understand the true nature of God or else you could not possibly believe that a loving God could allow His creatures to suffer for all eternity. They may even accuse you of gleefully contemplating the fate of those who accordiing to you are going to end of there.
When the passages that clearly state that the unbeliever is going to be lost forever are presented to them, they twist the meaning of those passages to such an extent in an effort to avoid having to face reality, that a pretzel would be envious.
Some of them will tell you that the Bible we have today is so badly translated that it doesn't even remotely resemble the Bible as it existed 2000 years ago. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Well, the delusion that comes to those who have chosen to reject the truth allows them to believe everything but the truth. A person can reach a point of no return. That is, a person can reject the truth for so long and to such an extent that he becomes locked into his state of delusion and cannot come to accept the truth. This person will be permanently locked into a state of negitive volition against truth and nothing remains but for him to die and go to his fate.
Why does my King James Version have a footnote in Jonah 2:2 that says hell means grave?? Were they confused?? Did they have it right the first time or the second? And why did they change it? Which interpretation was correct??

The Hebrew word is Sheol which means grave, pit, or abyss.
Well how come the Pharisees and Scribes who knew the scriptures back to front were deceived ? and they did not have all the mistranslated scriptures like we do today.
Saul before is conversion was second to none in the scriptures , what was all that about ?
Why did Jesus say to the Pharisees regarding the scriptures "In themyou think you have eternal life" ?.
Were they deceived before Jesus appeared ? Me thinks so

The Pharisee's were experts in the letter of the law but most of them knew little or nothing about the spirit of the law. They expected a Messiah but Jesus Christ didn't fit their image of the Messiah. They wanted a political Messiah who would free them from the Romans. They didn't understand that the Messiah had to first die for the sins of the world. Despite their academic knowledge, they were ignorant of the most basic of spiritual truths as shown by Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus (John 3:1-21). Most of the Pharisee's and actually most of the Jew's rejected Christ and therefore the Jew's even now are under a partial hardening of the heart that won't be removed until the event's of the Tribulation open their eyes to the fact that Jesus is the Messiah that they rejected.

In 1611, in the Elizabethan English of the time, the word 'hell' referred to the place of the unseen, the place that was beyond human eyesight, the place that was covered. Therefore, the translators of the King James translated the words Hades, Tartaros, and geenna as hell in some 23 places. At least at that time it was a good translation. The translators used the language of the time.

So no different from orthodox fundamental christianity then ?

What if your expected Messiah's return doesn't happen as you expect? Have you then been deceived as well? If you were, according to your OP, then you wouldn't know it... would you?

This sums it up well. Deception itself claims unity thru diversity as well. Diverse thoughts, opinions, and thoughts. The deeper the deception the more diversity is accepted and praised. Daniel himself foretold of such things as revealed by Christ. Thank God for the unity of Christianity. Excellent post again sir.
