and you went to church today or tonight in observance of Maundy Thursday, what were the colors of the cloth on your altar and robes worn by the priest, pastor? This is not earth shattering my any means and doesn't make any difference in our faith one way or the other obviously, but I am just curious. Ours were white/gold and I have never seen those colors used on this day. Its always been purple or white in my experience. Anyone else? Anyone know the significance of that?

Thanks!

Nancy

In The Word Of God ,John 19:2 ``And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put it on his head and they put on him a purple robe .... and said Hail King of the Jews and thy smote him with there hands``.... in Exodus 25:2-4... the shadow of Jesus temple `` speak unto the children of Israel that they bring me an offering of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering and this is the offering which ye shall take of them gold and silver and brass, ..and blue, and purple and scarlet and fine linen and goats hair ``these colors are held up in brilliance and were put on the altars ......

Purple and white. I am Lutheran and I really enjoy the liturgical year. For me it vividly illustrates God's design of the year, the seasons, the cycle of birth life death and regeneration.

Don't know why gold and white or purple and white would be used? I've never heard of this.

I'm picturing in my mind the stripping of the alter and I'm pretty sure it was red. The ELCA website says white or red may be used.

Purple is for Lent.

My fave is the blue for Advent.

I like the blue also. My favorite.
I thought the alter was purple on Maundy Thursday, perhaps I was mistaken.(?)
