I'm sure that this subject has been broached many times before but what I would like to know is.........
Do you think that the "age of accountability" might be around the same age as when peers are becoming important to a child? (peer influence)
I'm thinking that a very young kid still focuses on what his/her parents teach them so, even if the parents are "wrong"...the kid wouldn't know it but, as the child grows up and becomes more and more influenced by his/her peers then he/she would have to answer for themselves.
It is my estimation that the "age of accountability" coincides with about the middle school years (11-12 years old)

I hear in some cultures the age is 40...
No one really knows but as far as 11-12, i think that is the period where a lot of mistakes are made and you are still transitioning from the make-believe stage as a child to the reality stage of the adult.
As a 34 year old I can say that I should be held accountable.. I should know better.
But my 17 year old daughter (you can do the math) I would say no way!
I believe that the "age of accountability" being referred to in the OP is the suggested age given where free salvation for all children ends and then one must decide for themselves to save themselves from eternal hell by believing in Jesus. The reason for this age of accountability being suggested is because people did not like the thought that babies and young children were being eternally tormented in hell as it is obvious that they can not make a decision like that.

I believe that awareness starts at this age...Jesus was 12 years old when he disappeared for 3 day while Joseph and Mary looked all over for him and found him teaching...Luke 2:42-49
There is no age of accountability in the Bible, but if it were real it would be the "great loophole." A loving parent could kill their child in order to save their soul. Something is wrong with that picture, isn't it? God will not torture children or anyone else.

From a Psychology standpoint you are correct. Barring any abnormal development, kids around this age are able to understand the difference between right and wrong regarding their actions.

And I do not believe in an age of accountability.
Some Christian mothers who believed in eternal torment have murdered their dear innocent little children before they reached the age of accountability so they would be assured of heaven.
You'd think all Christians would consider these mothers wonderful people for doing this wonderful act.
If the world were run by Christians who believe in ET I can just see them putting a loaded gun up to the heads of kids before they reach the magic age of accountability and demand from them that either they believe Christ died for them of they get their heads blown away to ensure them of eternal life.
