"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."
"Faith in Jesus Christ" is nowhere in the NT. "Faith in Christ" 4 times.
"Faith of Jesus Christ" 4 times. "Faith of Christ" 2 times.
Is there a difference between faith IN Jesus, and faith OF Jesus?
So, are you saying that the declaration that "a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ" means that man cannot have faith, but that it is Jesus in us who has faith? that we are justified by HIS faith?
Ahh yes that good old xtian teaching of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. More like what I call "Buffet Religion". I'll have a little of this and some of that but skip that stuff. You can wish away that which was plainly stated by the Messiah HIMSELF or you can PAY ATTENTION. You may not be justified BY the very works you do, but they ARE a part of the package LIKE IT OR NOT!
First from Revelation 22: 12“And see, I am coming speedily, and My reward is with Me, to give to each according to his work.l 13“I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Tav’, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. 14“Blessed are those doing His commandmentsn so that the authority shall be theirs unto the tree of life, and to enter through the gates into the city. 15“But outside are the dogs and those who enchant with drugs, and those who *****, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and all who love and do falsehood.o 16“I, , have sent My messenger to witness to you these matters in the assem- blies. I am the Root and the Offspring of David,p the Bright and Morning Star.
Then from Matthew 7: 21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the commandments of My Father in the heavens. 22“Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ 23“And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’d

Ironically, my name's Brian too (and we spell it correctly!).
Correct, we live by the faith of the Son of God (Gal 2:20); but we must remember that Christ not only died for us, He died with us - if this was not so, He would be raised up without us, the brethren. Therein, the faith, the love, the fruits...the very life is then drawn from Him, the Vine.
The work of the cross experientially is one of the most overlooked concepts of our faith. As we take up our cross and die to the flesh, the life of Christ is imparted to us - with that life is the power to live as we're commanded.

Love to hear comments,

Hi Brian,
Good question!
When Jesus went to the cross He had to have faith that God would raise Him from the dead. That is the faith of Jesus Christ.
We are saved and justified by the faith of Jesus Christ.
Faith is- I don't think there is really a difference in having the Faith of Christ and having faith in HIM. I am just glad HE is the Justifier.
That is fine if you don't think there is a difference.
But look at this:
Rom 3:26 toward the display of His righteousness in the current era, for Him to be just and a Justifier of the one who is out of the faith of Jesus."
Gal 2:16 having perceived that a man is not being justified by works of law, except alone throughthe faith of Christ Jesus, we also believe in Christ Jesus that we may be justified out of the faith of Christ and not by works of law, seeing that by works of law shall no flesh at all be justified."
Phi 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having my righteousness, which is of law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God for faith:"
Hi guys, (so there are at least 2 Brians here..!),
Your answers are all quite thought-provoking..
I grew up always being taught that *we* must have faith--as if it is something we all have inside us. (Maybe we do all have it, but the message sent always seems to be, "pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you can do it!!)
But things change a bit if it's really true that it is the faith of Jesus, or Jesus with HIS faith, which saves us. In other words, NO ONE has faith. Only God/Jesus, and they bring it with them!
To me, this is important, because many religious types seem to give off this air of being "holier than thou," and indeed, if they consider themselves to be the authors of their own faith, then other non-believers will (even if they don't realize it) feel inferior and bad. And this is, IMO, VERY important to clarify.

And that is where a lot of people take the horse and forget the cart. We must do things that we cannot. How can this be?
By replacing our life with His, being grafted into the Vine, abiding in Him...however we want to say it - it's His life that we live. We've been told "Be ye perfect, even as our Father in heaven is perfect."
But without Him, we can do nothing.
