It upsets me to no end that so many people are being taken as fools by their own pastor. Pastors know that few will ever study for themselves, and that few will ever challenge what they say.
Well, I pay a full tithing, and my pastor doesn't get a dime of it.

That's what they'll claim a tithe is, if they stick to a strict definition. I've also seen those who say "Give until it hurts"...and for some 10% would hurt.

I don't even get 10% of my pay in discretionary money. I'm certainly not giving it to a church!

Which priesthood do you believe you are under? You can't be under more than one, can you?

Who gets it? And do you have any scripture to show that wherever your tithe goes that is what is supported by scripture? Or do you just do it because you were taught to do it?

The Melchizedek, although Melchizedek priesthood holders have all of the authority the Aaronic priesthood holders have.

Scripture doesn't dictate every detail of my life, gary. My tithes go to the Church to build up the kingdom of God on the earth.

If we are talking about an OT tithe maybe he is paid in wheat, wool and goats....????

If we're talking about LDS then only the few at the very top get wealthy while the rest of the clergy do work for free.

Actually, it wouldn't be my "pastor"; it would be my "bishop." We have an unpaid, lay ministry so our bishops are called to serve in that capacity for generally about 5 years, during which time they support their families doing whatever they were doing when they were called to the position. I've had bishops who were doctors, bankers, broadcast journalists, professional geneologists, etc. When a man is serving as a bishop of a congregation, he is pretty much working close to two full-time jobs. Just one of them is a paying job, though. So yes, you could say that he works for free.

I wish more churches/denominations worked like that.

I, personally, don't believe the scriptures support full-time paid ministers/pastors.
