Two people. Which one is the real you? Or even more accurately, the final you?

Can you explain what verses 9, 10, and 11 mean in your own words?

This is from the Good News translation:

I myself was once ALIVE apart from the law; but when the commandment came, since sprang to life, and I died.

And the commandment which was meant to bring life, in my case brought death.

Sin found it's chance, and by means of the commandment it deceived and killed me.

My explanation is that i am guilty ... and i am sorry ...

I'm sorry, Ironmaw1776. I hope you are doing okay.

I was just having some trouble making out exactly what verses 9, 10, and 11 meant.

Blessings to you, Ironmaw,

Just like ILNC stated, "we have all been there!" Yet, what is so wonderful to know is His love will not leave us there.

I am sooooooo thankful in that, "This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." (Lam. 3:21-23)

May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you...... Ironmaw

You do know that Paul was referring to his old man when he was under the law in Romans 7, right? No man is justified by the law. Romans 8 gives us the victory through grace.

scgraham, I know that we have discussed this many times, but I'm surprised you don't see the conflict in your members, the spirit warring against the flesh.

I never run into people who are saying what you're saying - Paul was talking about dying to self!

(YLT)
9And I was alive apart from law once, and the command having come, the sin revived, and I died; 10and the command that [is] for life, this was found by me for death;
11for the sin, having received an opportunity, through the command, did deceive me, and through it did slay [me];

I understand this as passing from the innocence of childhood into the knowledge of right and wrong when we mature, and through the knowledge of right and wrong(good and evil/the law) we die ... Its the common experience we all share with Adam and Eve ...

Sorry about my response last night i was really tired and i didn't read your question right ...
