I agree, and I think also think that God knows how we'll respond. The purpose, imo is that the exercise shows us what we still require in the way of righteousness (His life). We can then call out to Him to finish the work, as we see how we (don't) measure up to perfection.
In the KJV There is not tests but the Version uses temp, proved, triest, tried... In Genesis 22:1 ,,,`` God did temp Abraham.......In Exodus 15:25...``and there he proved him`` ... Exodus 16:4..``That I may prove them``.............Exodus 20:20..``Fear not for God has come to prove you``......In Deuteronomy 8:2..`` to humble you and the prove you``... In Judges 2:22..`` I may prove Israel``....In 1 Chronicles 29:17...``That thou triest the heart``....In Job 23:10..`` When he hath tried me``.......Some diffrent terminology here but mostly the same meaning The term I like the best is prove because Jesus proves his Word when HIS miracles come to life...Glory to God....
The term I like is "proof", as in the artist's impression - the current state of a vessel while it's being worked on. We know that the clay has no power over the Potter, and that the Potter has ultimate control over the work of His hands; but a master craftsman will stop to admire His work now and then.
He must exercise us so that we become "fit" for him.
Its Like Training.
