I often try to dislink religion from scripture, but it boils down to not being able to make a point that many if not all
faiths are at least attempts to follow some sort of man founder, evolved doctrine(s) or perceived enlightenment based on segmental interpretation of scripture that in turn takes your big faith to a higher level than those others.
In reality we are a ship of fools arrogently bound to an array of teachings ,doctrines and denominations most partly full of baloney yet in fairness striving for truth and a relationship with God having the audascity of believe we be the righteous flock not ...them ......to which I respond...really?
What your posts literally scream is a love for the Bible and scriptures . . . NOT God. Your reverence for those products of human fallibility is unwarranted and is what corrupts your understanding of God and Jesus. You keep looking in the scriptures because you think in them to find eonian life . . . but they speak of Christ and He is who you should focus your reverence and love on. Remember that verse??? You are to believe Christ . . .not the words "written in ink." Christ abides with us as the Comforter sent in His name to guide us to the truth God has laready "written in our hearts." you do not trust your heart . . . you trust a book.
What sources should we look for the truth about God and Christ then? Human philosophy? Youtube? Wikipedia?
Faith is established on our power to reason. God's Word helps us to reason things through.
I agree Jesus may have been real and he may have believed that untruth.
It's an untruth (that Adam and Eve existed) to some because it does not agree with the theory of evolution. Some say Jesus may have been real just like some believe the Holocaust may have happened or that men may have gone to the moon.
Which is the most loving benchmark, or that which serves a better purpose? We do not kill or torment our children, just because they missed the mark?
We lovingly correct them, even if it appears like fire and brimstone.
I would think the loving benchmark would be a Creator who takes no delight in the death of someone wicked and wants all to attain to repentance. However, is it loving for a Creator to continue allowing those who want to live in peace to be victims of those who refuse? Yet, any adverse action, for example, as to who gains everlasting life and who does not belongs to God who has appointed Christ. Christ Jesus lived as one of us and knows all the joys, the sorrows, the pain and difficulties of human existence. We can be confident in divine decisions. That is not the case with imperfect human thinking or judgment.

Preposterous! Based on WHAT criteria???The incidences of completely opposite values and mores in the Bible are legion. The absolutely ridiculous attempts to merge the revelations of Christ about the TRUE NATURE of God with the OT ignorance and superstition are pathetic. They corrupt every value revealed by Christ under the context of a wrathful, jealous (very human) God who works in mysterious ways and says "Do as I say not as I do."

No.
It's an untruth because the story is patently absurd.
The fact that it is also contrary to the truth of evolution is just further evidence of its falseness.
