The following resource is a fascinating study on the hypostatic union of the unique Person of the universe; the Lord Jesus Christ, who is both eternal and infinite God, and true humanity in one Person. So, if you're interested...

The doctrine of the hypostatic union teaches that Jesus Christ is both undiminished deity and unfallen humanity combined together forever in one person. The theanthropic person is one hundred percent God, and at the same time one hundred percent man. Though the emphasis is usually on the union between the two natures, it is apparent from Scripture that there were times when Jesus spoke only from His humanity, such as when He was thirsty (John 19:28) or hungry (Matthew 4:2), or only from His deity, such as when He forgave sins (Mark 2:5-7) or referred to Himself as the great “I Am” (John 8:58), or from both natures simultaneously when speaking as the unique mediator between God and man (John 14:6; 1 Timothy 1:5).
This thread is fairly old but I want to add another link which is an excellent study on the hypostatic union and Kenosis of Jesus Christ. DOCTRINE OF THE HYPOSTATIC UNION AND KENOSIS
The hypostatic union explains how both the divine nature of Jesus Christ and His human nature exist together in one Person without any mixture or loss of separate identity. Jesus Christ is the God-Man. Eternal and infinite God and since His incarnation, He is and always shall be true humanity.
Kenosis has to do with the voluntary restriction of the independent use of His deity while on earth during His first advent.
These doctrines should be of interest to everyone who is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. What God has revealed about Himself in the Scriptures, He expects the believer to know.
Knowing that "Jesus Christ; the God-Man" combined with "for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” ..
is only understood because of the Holy Spirit:
"The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned."

That is true. The unbeliever is spiritually dead, and the believer out of fellowship through sin is under the control of his sin nature. Neither are able to understand the spiritual things of God.
But I posted this for the benefit of believers who are interested in learning Bible doctrine.
Mike, remember that Christ (the Anointed) is reigning as our mediator, advocate, and savior - but Jesus (common name in Biblical times) is in the past if you will.
We need to see Him as spirit now, and "know no man after the flesh".

To the contrary. Jesus Christ is to be seen, to be understood as the God-Man. Eternal and infinite God and true humanity in one Person. The unique Person of the universe. He is presently seated at the right hand of the Father in resurrected body waiting to return to the earth at the proper time. He also indwells as deity, the body of every church-age believer.
And yes, Jesus is our mediator, advocate, and Savior.
God expects the believer to understand the entire realm of Bible doctrine. That, and the application of it to the circumstances of life are the means of spiritual growth. The greatest virtue in the Christian life is knowledge of Bible doctrine, for without Bible doctrine there can be no spiritual growth.
