Hi everyone,
Looking at a recent thread, it became apparent to me that there is some debate about where faith comes from.
Eph 2:8--"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God".

What is the gift of God? Faith or grace?

Blessings,
brian

I believe it is referring to the faith

Amplified version: "For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God"

They interpret it as salvation as the gift.
In the original greek?

Blessings,
brian

I would say that both the grace and the faith are not of us, both are the gift of God

When I see the word faith I also think it has to do with faithfulness (faith without works is dead and is not true living faith)

Yes. I also see here:

"To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit"
1 cor 12:9.
So it seems that faith is a gift. Apparently, Paul sees faith as something that some of the church has, but not all, just as not everyone has gifts of healing.

Peace,
brian

Faith is a gift of love for believer to be able to love the Lord in the confidence of knowing him and receiving his hand.....You must have been drawn by the Lord God to receive this gift. ... Sometime the Lord God has to renew his gift in time of distress the gift to love him which will receive his hand.....There is a Spirit of Faith that the Lord God has that can conpletely consume a whole Church to receive when expectation to receive the gift is exercised to Heaven..... Faith is the gift of love for the believers confidence and grace is the gift or any gift that the Lord will give.......

Answer: neither.

Faith is not from God; God's existence depends on faith. With that said, what "grace"?

That's a testable truth.

It means you can test it yourself with 100% certainty: if you loose faith on your God, then your God does not exit at all. In fact, you (and all others) never heard anything from God. There is not a single thing you know for certain about God -- it's an unknowable permanent myth.

If you want to start a thread on "is God only due to humans faith" maybe you should start that thread in the religion and philosophy forum -- those are still just your opinions........

This thread is about what a certain scripture means to those who believe in those scriptures.
