I just found a site that shows Dodge has made a new redesigned 2014 full sized van. I am interested in 2014 Ford Transit but.....

New Dodge has impressed me. Has Front wheel drive, lower step into van, stronger frame, and more square cargo area for maximum useage of space. Also comes with 3.6 V 6 which I have in my 2012 Dodge Ram C/V mini van and love it. I average 26 to 29mpg daily at highway speed.

Also new 3.0 Diesel engine.

Anyone know about this van?

I certainly wouldn't want one. Build quality of Fiat is close to terrible. The 3.6 Pentastar you're so proud of has been a dismal failure for Dodge. Apparently you're lucky. These engines are plagued with a bad head design and head gaskets are a major issue. Rams idea of a fix is to replace the head gasket even though the head is the problem. That gets it fixed usually long enough to get it out of warranty where you can spend several thousand to fix it right. The 3.0 diesel has been used in Europe for several years now and is a well built engine. For its size, it could be stated that it's over built using a bed plate instead of main bearing caps, cooling nozzles, etc, just like the big diesels. Resale value is an obvious- who knows. But if Fiat remains true to its roots, it won't be a van you'll be able to sell later on. I'd wait for the Transit.

I'd be thinking a 3.0 doesn't have much power. How would it be if you needed to pass another vehicle on a two lane road? Like a VW bus?

The first gen sprinter sold in the US had a 2.7L 5 banger with 154hp @3800rpm and 243ft-lbs
@1600-2400rpm. The Fiat has 200hp. Its plenty of its running.

I've seen those sprinters driven by other expedited cargo drivers, but never asked how they performed. Is that specification considered to be good, excellent or otherwise?

My vehicle of choice for work was a 2001 Chevy with the 6.5 turbo, it wasn't very comfortable, but it could haul about 3,000 pounds easily in the cargo area.

If the OP is just using the '14 Dodge for pleasure, it'll probably be good for that.

Fed ex and DHL use the first gen sprinters extensively loaded up to the roof every day without a problem. The trick is the 243 torques at 1600rpm and the 5 speed auto. Thats what gets you going. Got to love modern diesels.

The second gen Sprinter has a 3.0 V6 straight out of the E class with 200hp and 400 torque.

The Sprinter is a great rig. Lots of motorhomes are built on it, they are hauling a bunch of weight and still getting in the 20s. I'm not so sure on the new one...it's a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. What are they thinking on a work vehicle? Put some weight in the back and it's hard to imagine it pulling itself anywhere with less than perfect traction. FWD is fine on a pass car, doesn't seem like a good idea on a cargo truck.

The FWD set up would also render it useless as a tow vehicle.
