I don't see why a farmer or someone in heavy duty work would blow $40-$50k on a pickup truck when they could get a 2-3 year old model for half the price. But I'm not in that field so I'm probably missing something as to why they would.

Yeah those commercials are stupid. I do think RAM has a better looking truck than the other 2 domestics though. But Tacoma is my personal favorite, but once again the price tags on these new trucks is ridiculous. Seems they are cashing in because people outside of the blue collar work are buying truck to look "tough" even though they sit in an office all day buying shiny parts for their Harley they ride on weekends.

Actually, full-sized 4x4 trucks don't depreciate anywhere near that quickly.

My dad is a semi-retired 80 year old farmer. And while he doesn't do this, a lot of farmers buy a brand new truck because it's a business expense, and can be used as a tax write-off. So if every dollar you spend on a truck saves you 30 cents in taxes, that makes the cost of a new truck look very different.

I'm waiting for Dodge to start shipping the 2014 Ram 1500 Diesel.

I've been looking for a diesel truck that won't take up two bays in my garage. The Ram 1500 has the same 3.0l ecodiesel v6 engine as the new Grand Cherokee, 4x4 model gets real-world +26MPG.

Too bad they keep pushing back the availability, so I can't get a test drive anywhere in New England...

To be honest I would just go look for a 2-3 year CPO Ram 2500 with 6.7 Cummins it will not have any first year issues and will hold it's resale value better then 3.0 Ecodiesel

I have a 2013 Ram v6 2wd. I take it offroad, I haul things with it. I tow trailers just fine. Sure I can't do a 5th wheel or massive trailers, but you're going to want a diesel for that anyway.

With 90% driving in Las Vegas traffic, as evidenced by the low mph average, I'm getting 20.1 mpg.

Deep voice, " Ram tough", bragging about best fuel economy.
You then find out that in order to get that fuel economy you would have to buy a v/6 and 2WD.

In the farming area of Minnesota , where I used to live, farmers needed a "tough" truck. However, you would be hard pressed to find a Dodge dealer with a V/6 .........2WD on his lot.

Certainly nobody needing a "Ram tough " would even consider a v/6 .....2wd as even coming close to that description !
And you think that Ford and Chevy and Toyota and Nissan and everyone else doesn't?

Oh please. Every manufacturer's marketing plan is to try and convince buyers their truck is "tough." They want the image spread across the line.

Farmers and any business person can write off the deprecation over the years.

Best fuel economy would probably be the diesel, and wouldn't a 3/4 diesel truck be more of a "farm truck" than a half ton v6 ?

I think so.....all of our trucks are at least 3/4 ton.
