I used to read a good amount about autos but not much in recent years. How are Chrysler vehicles these days in terms of reliability and build quality? How do they compare to GM and Ford?
I don't know, but I am not optimistic and would never take a chance on one from their horrible past. I think most people gave up on them, except for maybe a few Jeep loyalists.
As you probably noticed George, most of the replies you'll get putting down current Chrysler products are from people that have no experience with them, thus aren't qualified to give advice on them.
Owning any vehicle in the 80's or 90's and basing an opinion on the current model on that is just plain ignorant at best, yet people continually do it on here.

But how do you know that? The new models haven't been out long enough for us to know how durable they are. There's a lot of Fiat engineering put into them now, but Fiat doesn't exactly have a great reputation either.

I've said this before, My Sebring Convertible broke and was in the shop 53 times. That said, I do believe they improved, and mine was a first year (2008MY, real year 2007). I might consider them, but if they have something that fit us. They don't really have that.
I've owned 2 Jeeps (wrangler unlimited) and a Challenger. No problems, all were great vehicles. Chrysler quality improved A LOT after their bankruptcy.

When I say improved I mean fit/finish, interior quality, ride/handling. As we only have 3 years of history to look at it's hard to make a determination on long term reliability, as it would be with a new model from ANY manufacturer.
My 2014 Grand Cherokee is a far cry compared to a 2006-2010 model. I've driven them both, and the last generation was crap. Terrible V6, the transmission on the one I was driving would let you roll back quite a bit, the ride was rough and the interior was meh at best. My '14...better engine, far better ride, interior is worlds better than the previous. Even the interior on my 2012 was nice, and it was a base model with a few options. New one is a Limited.
That said...I see 300's all over the place here, and a fair number of the previous generation 200's. I saw a 2015 200 for the first time out on the road this weekend too...pretty nice looking car. Only thing I'm not so sure of is the dial for the transmission instead of a stick. I take my Jeep into the shop every 8000 miles or so unless something goes wrong, which so far as been the two recalls and the sunroof module doing funny things. They just replaced it, gave me a loaner since they kept it overnight. I'd have no problems buying another one. We've been looking at the new Cherokee or 200 for the wife, actually.
