I rented one in Ohio once for work and I loved it. Love the look, both inside and out (black/black), loved how it drove, it was awesome. The gas mileage isn't GREAT comparatively to others in it's class.
I was wondering, since it is discontinued, how long should I wait to get a great deal on it? Will the price be dropping like crazy soon?
Interesting footnote here locally, but leftover 2014s are still available at a few dealers. I have noticed the used 2011+ Avenger resale values seem to hold up better than I assumed they would after the model went on its hiatus.
That 286-HP 3.6L V6 in midsize car is one heck of a deal! Only the V6 Camry of this era has anything that close in power in this segment. Since you had a rental, you probably had a 4 cylinder. The 182-HP 4-cylinder is a very reliable engine. I owned/used for work three cars ('08 Avenger, '10 Sebring, '12 200) with that 4 cylinder engine and all made it to 100k before I or the company traded with no issues there.
I'm with King, pick the 283-hp V-6 if you can. That's a great value.
My guess is that prices will start dropping quickly in the next year or two, but now may be a better time to buy. Currently, I'm finding a lot of low mileage like-new Avengers around or under 15k. Over the next couple years prices will drop, but I fear the longer we wait, the less prevalent low-mileage options will be. The great deals will probably be on vehicles with over 100k miles, which I wouldn't purchase.
I agree, the Avenger looks awesome, but the mediocre/poor online reviews scare me, having never driven one personally.
I've bucked the trend and bought a '10 Avenger SXT from enterprise auto sales in March 2012. Searched and selected from the web site and had it delivered to the local Enterprise car sales dealer (no charge/close by). Made a good deal. Car had about 22k and cost about 14k. It's now at 53k and I've moved from Philly down here to Montgomery, Ala. and have had no probs. My case might be different, but this is my third enterprise car with no problems so I think I'm ok. BTW, I keep all my records and service the car by the book give or take a month or so. I checked the online reviews but don't take it too seriously.
