Ok so the car I was thinking of purchasing a few years down the road is being discontinued. It was the Xterra. Very reasonable price and capable of doing the type of off road I would be interested in. That would consist basically of rough roads with some washout areas and sand or mud and some inclines and mild rocks.

Now since the demise of the Xterra I have been thinking more of the Renegade Trail Hawk because they seem most similar. Any thoughts?

Not similar at all. One is a truck based suv, one is a car based crossover

The Renegade is more like the Nissan Rouge. If you want something like the Xterra you WILL be disappointed with it.

The Renegade is exceptionally capable but it is completely different than the Xterra because of the design.

The Wrangler Unlimited would be the obvious choice here for a Jeep which has off road capabilities along the lines of an Xterra.

I have a Renegade Sport. So far, I've not had any problems with it. It's been the most fun to drive out of any vehicle I've owned. It has the bigger 2.4L engine, so it's a little faster, and I'm still getting over 30mpg.

we are looking in to the renegade trailhawk . it seems to meet all the minor off road requirements i have for hunting and fishing yet gets about 10 mpg more than my sahara .
