I haven't bought a car in a long time. The last car I had was a lifted Dodge Ram. I've been looking for a Rubicon under $30K, with as low milage as I can find.

The Jeep I test drove was a Blue 2010 Rubicon with power and connectivity packages. It's a manual transmission.

It ran and drove great. No real issues that I could tell from just driving it and the price seems reasonable.

Here's my concern. It has the 3.8L 202HP motor and it's blue.

Do you think it's worth a few thousand more to find another jeep and get the newer 285HP VVT motor?

well, IMO I would look for a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, with the 6 speed manual transmission and 4.0L I-6 engine. I do not care for the looks of the newer versions.
I had an '06 as described, and it was a great vehicle, both on the freeway and on the Slick Rock trails near Moab, Utah. Of course, mine was slightly modified; custom bumpers, winch, 30 gallon fuel tank, suspension lift, body lift, tummy tuck, engine lift, oversize tires, custom roll bars, both tops, little things like that...
Being older and somewhat wiser, now I would like to have a bone-stock rig.

I let a Jeep similar as you've described slip through my hands today. It was a really clean bone stock '06 Rubicon for $18K and 34K miles.

I found it on CL sunday night, then went to call this morning and it was gone

I'm sure he sold it friday or saturday and just deleted the ad this morning, but anywho I was so ready to buy it, made me pretty sad...I told my wife that it was the unicorn Jeep I was looking for

I would avoid the 3.8 liter. They are notorious for losing oil. The one in my wife's van does it too. Though I am sure many people have had no issues with this engine.
Also the 2012 3.6 liter engine had a problem with the passenger side head that prompted Chrysler to extend the warranty on it.

Thanks for the replies. After a ton of internet research, I feel like that 2010 3.8L is too much of a risk. Some say you won't see any issues until you get around 100K miles.

I decided to just go with a 2015 I found that has 9000 miles on it, and for what I think is a fair price. I think I'll sleep a little better at night, not to mention...this one isn't blue. No offense blue jeep owners, I'm just not into it. This one is white.

Barring any issues, I'll be getting it through Carmax. It'll take a while to get here, but I'm not in a real big hurry. I compared it to others on Autotrader and it's about $2,500 cheaper than what they've posted.

Are there any Colorado jeep owners with white Jeeps out there that get blinded by the hood reflection?

Not just the 2012. the extended warranty covers 2011-2013 models.

When we were looking at Wranglers we wanted a 2012 or newer for the better, 80 pounds lighter lighter, more powerful engine and the updated interior. Daimler/Chrysler made the jeep feel cheap, like they did everything American. When Fiat took over they really made the Jeep brand better.

There should be lots of nice Wranglers on the market here soon once their Lease runs out. I see a LOT of "never been off road" Rubis running around AZ.

At the moment in Colorado (Denver, Fort Collins, Castle Rock) there are lots of Sports available, and some Rubicons. Mostly modified various models/years and very few clean Rubicons for a fair price. At least that's what I've seen during the last month of my my research through Autotrader, Craigslist, Carmax, and a handful of car lots.

My search criteria really narrowed the playing field. I would usually search within 200 miles as well.
2012 - 2015
2 Door
Rubicon
Under 60K miles
Under $35K
Colors - Silver, White, Black (order of preference)
Options - Power, Connectivity (neither of which are deal killers for the right Jeep)
No modifications

The results of this kind of search usually netted 6 - 12 Jeeps total. Some of which were double posts.
