I think they'll be around, just not all in one piece. They broke their own system and rode it to the ground.
Edit: I think they are making cars people want, it's just that someone else is doing it better and managing to make a profit. For examples, look how big Toyota made the Corolla and how big the Civic got, and then look at the Chevy Malibu. The cars are about the same thing, and you can extend that comparison to small SUVs, etc. Our guys slept while the Japanese walked right up to the middle of the road market and took it away by making better cars (not perfect, not less expensive, just better).
I agree.
Obama gave the auto unions the recommended political payoff with the billions already given, but he had to pay a price. Now that he has done his duty it's time to do the right thing and make the auto makers stand on their own two feet.
As to what people want, it's good vehicles at a good price. How hard can that be? If they can't figure out how to do that then they simply do not deserve to stay in business. Period.
Again I ask.... how in the world can GM help Delphi out of bankruptcy? how that even be possible?
I am truly concerned for the people I know who work for them as I think they really think that GM will save them.

The disclosures came in back-to-back releases today after President Barack Obama gave Chrysler 30 days to come up with a plan to team with the Italian automaker and qualify for as much as $6 billion in additional U.S. aid.
The second statement was issued about 30 minutes after Chrysler said Fiat and Chrysler majority owner Cerberus Capital Management LP had come to terms in a deal supported by the U.S. Treasury Department. Both statements were attributed to Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli and cited "substantial hurdles to resolve."
Chrysler is staying afloat on $4 billion in U.S. loans. Obama said the government will provide Chrysler the working capital it needs to get through the next 30 days. ...

And the reason Wagoner "resigned" is that the congressmen, who are overseeing the auto bailout, asked him how he arrived in DC. He responded,"By corporate jet!" They asked if he can let go of those liberties for now until you get your company back on it's feet. He said," There's no way I would give that up."
BYE-BYE!!!
