I remember a few years ago, all the excitement about Cincinnati and Dayton connecting similar to Dallas/ Forth Worth. Being that i have not been to Cincy in years did this ever happen. Or is it close to happening?

I don't know that I'd call urban sprawl "exciting," but Greater Cincinnati and Greater Dayton are getting closer together all the time. West Chester and Monroe continue to grow with subdivisions and shopping centers. A comparatively new expressway, I-675, has opened which bypasses Dayton to the southeast to connect I-75 with I-70. The Dayton newspaper has a huge new printing/distribution facility near that interchange, and the surrounding 'burbs are booming. Meanwhile the core cities are a combination of blighted neighborhoods and gentrifying communities, with an overall net loss in population.
So, whether this is "exciting" or "unfortunate," the open spaces still remaining between the two cities are disappearing fast.

With the 2010 census, we are considered one metropolitan area. As far as I can tell, that is an accurate representation of reality. If only we could get the Dayton Daily News to cover the whole area, then I wouldn't have to read the Cincinnati Enquirer.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I decided that rather than come down on I-75 from Dayton to Cincinnati, we would take the scenic route on US 42 to see the country. To our surprise, there's no country left between Cincy and Dayton...nothing but cul-de-sacs.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, it's developing more and more, but there is still open country along that route at some spots between Mason and Lebanon, and then again between Lebanon and Waynesville - with quite a bit of open land left between Waynesville and Xenia.

With the bad economy and all. People have been searching further and further away from jobs. It would not create a single MSA but would create a CSA. Combined statistical area. The combined are would have over 3.3 million people. Passing Denver's CSA of 3.1 million.

The threshold is a commuter exchange rate between the 2 MSA's of 25% to be automatically become a single CSA. It is as low as 15% if community leaders approve of such a merger.

Would be just a CSA but not sure yet. The 2010 Census is not complete.
