was altered to make room for Chili Time, ca. 1970.
There was a food store on the south side of section, at the eastern end

but cannot recall which one.

The supermarket was, I think, probably an Albers or Krogers or possibly a Liberal. There was a driveway/parking lot around and to the rear of the building which made it possible to enter on one side and exit on the other.

Talk about a strange wrinkle in the space/time continuum -- I left the Roselawn Area in the mid 1970's and have been living in Western Hills since 1977.
About two years ago, my new wife and I were attending her parent's church, The Westwood United Methodist Church, and who should I meet was Mr. Hafer and his wife! What a strange coincidence. He fondly remembers Roselawn School and my mother (she was PTA President when he was principal).
When he left Roselawn, he became principal of Westwood School.
Small world indeed!
One more point -- Barrows Pharmacy was indeed located at the cornder of Summit and Reading Roads (it is now a pile of concrete and bricks). His store was previously located on Section Ave, near Edgemont Terrace. My dad used to call him "the wheel" (Barrow)

Was that the same building that K. Lenhardt's was in? There were several
business in that spot.
Early in this thread a poster mentioned that there was once a pharmacy near
Lefty's Tavern, but the name was not given. Looks like Barrow's fits the bill.

That was an Albers (I believe). It was purchased by Avon Masonic Lodge #542 Then sold to the Warner Blakemore Temple company. It is still a Masonic Lodge.

So the building is still there?
I remember going there with mom & dad in the 50's and being impressed with how neat the coffee grinders were.

Jack Barrow and his first wife Rae tended Barrows Pharmacy for quite a while. (Both Rae and Jack have passed away.)
Plotnick's Pharmacy was on Losantiville next to UDF and Stanleys Deli (Plotnick moved from Reading Road in Avondale near Rockdale.
Gluecks (became Mediplex Mr Glueck died a few years ago) Pharmacy ended up on Reading near paddock across from Weils Funeral home and the Dragon Inn (Weils is now in Montgomery and Dragon Inn moved to Section near reading As far as I know, Mr Soon- owner of the Dragon Inn died a while ago.- became a Korean Restaurant and now is Song Long a wonderful Vietnamese Restaurant).
Lowenthal Pharmacy was at California and Reading. (Mr Lowenthal died years ago)
There was also the Valley Pharmacy and Roselawn Pharmacy...I don't remember the owners in the 50s. Jerry Goodman owns Roselawn Pharmacy today and Kalman Plotnick and Tom Rinsky (both from Plotnick's Pharmacy) work for Jerry.
Cincinnati used to have tons of independent pharmacies...Not so today. The chains have taken over the city

I had Mrs. Volkman for Kindergarten at BH, then Mrs. Brehmer for 1st grade. Mr. Warren was the Principal.
There was a little place in Swifton that sold cotton candy, ice-cream, etc. Can't remember the name of it but it was tiny and we'd go there after school (Woodward). There was a Max's Gentry in Swifton that sold mainly men's clothes I think and it was pretty popular in the 60's. I remember being at Swifton Center after school one day and there was a rock band that played in the middle of the center (it wasn't covered) and it was the Blues Magoos ("We Ain't Got Nuthin' Yet"). I have no idea how or why they were playing at Swifton! But that was a big national hit sometime in the 60's.
I remember the Ohio National Guard Armory on Reading just north of Paddock on the East side of the street. There were lots of bands and teen dances there on weekends.
The lot south of Sugar'n'Spice became softball fields sometime in the early to mid 1960's.
Roselawn Frisch's Mainliner was where you went to cruise and look for girls. Mt. Vernon Frisch's was where you went to actually eat.
The first White Castle I ever remember was in Norwood - maybe on Dana (??) and the burgers were 7 cents each I think. Then of course the one at Cal. and Reading was a WHS haunt.
Twin Drive-In was THE place to go with a date and make-out. Then afterward to Roselawn Park to make-out. And if those places were filled, there was always Shuller's Motel...

You may have been a little more advanced than me.
I did go to Roselawn Park but only to play football for OMS.
Later in life I shared your experience at the Twin but it never seemed to extend to Shuller's.
Drat the luck!

I used to see Mr.Hafer quite often during the '70's and ''80's @ Westwood school. My family had a store in the Western Hills Plaza. I played on a knothole baseball team in 1961 sponsored by Barrows Pharmacy. Believe it or not... my Mom was also President of Roselawn PTA in 1961 while Mr. Hafer was the principal. That year there was a photo year book of the entire Roselawn School classes. I have a copy... its great!

I believe the candy store near Murphy's was called HONEYCOMB ! It was across from the rides. I was at Swifton on the Saturday morning when the Blues Magoos played.
In the Valley Shopping center there was an H Salt Fish & Chips, Sol Augenbraun kosher butcher, Lou Goland shoes next to the movie theater.
Rheinhold Drive was a great place to learn to drive a car (At any age !).
