Bob Schuster was my coach on the Golf Manor Colts - circa 1955 - and took us all the way to the Class D championship in Middletown where we, unfortunately, lost.
His son Robbie was also on the team.
Is the building still there?

Roselawn School
I had Miss Zehler for Kindergarten, Miss Doerrger for 1st grade, Miss Anish for 2nd, Mrs. Bernstein for 3rd, Miss Allen for 4th, Miss Jones for 5th, and Mr. Hammersly for 6th. Do any of you remember the principal at Roselawn before Mr. Hans Hafer?----Mr. William Schroeder.

On drugs (stores)
Glueck's in Avondale was at the SW corner of Clinton Springs and Reading Rd, what's now Seasongood Park. (At least it's a park, and a well-kept one at that, instead of just a fallow vacant lot like all too many other spots along there.) The Mediplex pharmacy was in the long strip of businesses on the east side of Reading between Avondale Ave and Barry Lane - and that commercial block is now one of those fallow vacant lots.
Igler's in Hartwell is the druggist whose loss I mourn the most. It was bad enough about 40 years ago when the old store with its tile floors and soda fountain was demolished in favor of the bland brick strip mall on the same lot that it moved into. Home deliveries...huge Russell Stover candy display...pharmacists and techs who knew you...free reads of the magazines with no hassle...can't get any of that at Walgreen's or CVS.
There's an idea, I should start a "mid-century Vine St" thread. This one about Reading Rd has taken on a life of its own and I've been lovin' it.

Butcher shop next to Lowenthal's
The delicatessen next to Lowenthal's in Bond Hill was Ginsburg's or Ginsberg's--not sure of the spelling. It was perhaps two stores north of Lowenthal's, with Sally's Dress Shop between the two businesses.

Glueck moved from Clinton Spring to Reading and Paddock then was purchased by Mediplex. I interviewed for a job with Harry Glueck at the Reading and Paddock location.

I, too, remember riding the Roselawn 43 bus with the character known as "Pickles." His nose was always dripping and he would sit in the first long seat directly behind the driver. I never knew his last name. My grandmother, who was born in 1895 (and long deceased, naturally) would talk about Pickles. It seems as if everyone knew him.
There was also an older gentleman who hung around Swifton Shopping Center in the 1960s and talked to all of the kids. My girlfriends and I were terrified when he approached us. Looking back, I realize he was probably just a low-functioning adult and no one to be afraid of.

The Frisch's in Roselawn on Reading Road is GONE???? The one between Summit and Galbraith??? When did the demolition take place? I just saw it maybe a month ago--in fact, a friend from high school (with whom I had just become reacquainted after almost 30 years!) and I had talked about meeting there for dinner!

That's news to me too. It wasn't called the "Mainliner" any more but was still well maintained and doing a decent business not many months ago.

There was never a Pogue's at Swifton-it started as Rollman's and down the stretch before Murphy's was a nice store called Franklin's. Maybe that's what you remember.
Rollman's became Mabley & Carew and then finally Elder-Beerman-out of Dayton, Ohio.
